Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
I took my clutch apart today to inspect it. The first friction plate I measured was 0.131 inch thickness. Factory service manual says to replace if any friction plate is less than 0.143 inches.
Looking at the pressure plate, there is a lot of what looks like debris around the outer diameter of the plate. Is this just worn off clutch/friction material? The oil in the primary chaincase doesn't carry this debris to the magnetic drain plug?
Looks like friction material "sludge". Maybe centrifugal force trapped some of it around the perimeter? I would think it would be of no concern unless you have real metal shavings in there.
What does the underside of the pressure plate look like? It may be worn. The pressure plate is alimunum and it sees the same friction material as the steels in a stock clutch. IIRC they can wear a lip on the inside of the plate.
