Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
I plan on removing the Primary outer cover, then move to the cam cover and Transmission covers. I will be removing exhaust. shotgun style so straight forward bolt on/off.
Questions?
fluids from removing the Transmission cover??
fluids from removing the Primary outer??
after loosing the bolts to where the pipes connect to the engine, are there gaskets to replace.
Any other experienced info would be helpful. I want to make sure I can not damage anything other then replacing gaskets, fluids, and replacing covers to black.
You definitely want to invest in a service manual so you have the proper tightening sequences & torque specs & fluid capacities etc. Get the part number for your manual and buy it from Zanottis or Chicago HD. You can screw up the covers if you don't tighten them correctly. JMHO.
I have the service manual, and I hear yea on the bolt/torq issue. Im just trying to learn and take a simple approach, other than given the stealer a 4 hour service $$ check for something I may be able to do myself....Granted if I f_-k up it will cost me even more.!!!
I was quoted 1 hour to replace the outer primary and 3 hours to do the cam and trans covers, cause of removin pipes. Service price is going up to 70.00 an hour.
Well if you look in the manual it is all in there. If you take your time you can easily do the replacments of those parts yourself. Just make sure you follow the instructions in each section of the manual- and you need new gaskets and loctite for everything including the exhaust. Just be patient and if you have a digital camera take pics so you have a reference. I usually lay out all the fasteners or label them so I get the correct ones back in the correct place. If you get stuck let us know. BTW, The oil capacities are in the book.

Just gasket, loctite is pointless on exhaust studs, burn right off. Wheels up on 2x4's and lean way over on jiffy stand and you won't have to drain tranny fluid
