Default Transmission Leakage

Hello all - new member needing some advice. 03 E Glide - leaking what appears to be fluid on floor of garage. Have read many posts ref this topic and most sound as if the leak is coming from left side of bike i.e. inner primary seal, shaft seals, etc. In looking at mine closely, it actually appears that my leak is originating on the right side of the transmission, trailing down right side, then across oil pan and finally dripping off the oil pan plug making it look like an oil leak (until you smell the drop). I'm thinking I may just have some loose bolts but am going to clean it up today, heat it up, and take a real good look at it again. Has anyone had a similar experience?

thanks for you help - this seems like a great place to get it!

yes, your problem is not an uncommon one. In my shop I have seen the transmission trap door bolts loosen and leak down the right side and under the pan, just like you are talking about. You will need to drop the exhaust pipe out of the way and pull the oil filler spout
(replace with a new gasket) in order to get to the bolts. Loctite them and torque to spec and this will solve your problem.

Thanks for the replies....I cleaned the whole thing up today and rolled it in and put it on the lift. I'll check both things and hopefully clear up the problem. Thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate the help.

Default Thanks Stroker!

My thanks to Stroker for telling me about the trap door problem. I cleaned the bike up, got underneath after it was hot, and found that one of the bolts to the trap door had actually worked itself about half way out....this is definitely the problem.....have it up on the lift and will tighten up all trap door bolts with locktite per his advice......thanks again, Stroker!
