Changing the compensating sprocket and chain
Your level of comfort (do you feel lucky)?
Do you have an extended warranty?
Do you have roughly 300-700 bucks laying around?
Do you have the time?
Here is what you do have,
You have the culprit model and year,
You have the symptoms starting.
I don't know exactly what service intervals the dealer looks at what exactly, since I have done all service myself.
I asked myself all the same questions and did not have the symptoms yet but had 5400 miles on it so decided to rip into it. I don't have the extended warranty
I paid 280 for the rotor and stator kit from HD, but I seen some guys paying 220 for the kit, I think if you order it from a specific dealer maybe you get a better price. Some gaskets, a couple seals, some replacement primary oil. Of course if you have the dealer do it, you will have labor costs, hence the higher end costs.
Oh believe me I know exactly what your talking about. Do you know how many guys at work are non stop on me about "so you gotta rebuild the motor at 5400 miles, is the chrome even dirty yet, the leather still smells new, and on and on and on.
I don't want to get to off topic here but I really dig my bike but I gotta say, I don't know if I'll own another hd product,
Okay back on track, let us know what you or the dealer do and good luck, but deffinitely look into it soon, save yourself some headaches and maybe financial turmoil later down the road.
