Cool FX Shift Pattern

I just picked up a 77fx someone put forword controls on it and the shift pattern is 1 up 3 down.I've owned Harleys for over 40 years and have always done my own wrenching.Every Harley i've owned the shift pattern has been 1down and 3 or 4 up.Is this something they did on 77s and how do i change it to 1 down and 3 up?Im changing it to mid controls.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I've seen that pattern before, but never on an HD.

you have the wrong shifter arm on the transmission..fx has an arm pointing up,the rod goes strait back like current bikes/flh has an arm pointing down, the shift rod goes down behind the primary to clear the left side duel exhaust..they turn opposite directions..so if you have any combination of parts, you get a reversed shift pattern..

Agree and might be able to fix by relocating the pivot point on the Shifter ( move rod from Under to Above peg on shifter )depending on clearance

Default Fx shift pattern

Thanks Jimmy.I took a look at the shifter and the shifter shaft lever. The shifter arm and assembly is aftermarket, but it is set up to use the shifter shaft lever in the up position.Had a brain fart and could not figure it out.
Thanks for the replies
