Default Outter Primary Part Number Question ...

Hello, I am currently working on a '93 FXSTC. The original '93 HD parts manual states that the part number is 60543-89. It lists this part number as a chrome part.

Part number 60506-89 is a number I have seen on the Net for a primary cover available without chrome and advertised to fit '89 and up Softail models.

Is the difference between 60506-89 and 60543-89 simply the factory chrome option and will it fit a '93 FXSTC? The "-89" suffix should fit '89 through '93 however the last 2 digits of the number raises some doubt.

Thank-you in advance,

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to HDF from the UK.

According to my 87-90 parts book the chrome part is the same # as you have (suffix is -86A, but that is OK), but the plain cover is 60507-89. Hope that answers your question!

Hi GR, thank-you very much!!!

I did some additional cross referencing as well and it appears that the last 2 digits of the part number (excluding the year/suffix) do, in fact, refer to the part's finish.

In other words, of the 60506 part number, 06 = brushed, 43 = chrome and there are other numbers for black wrinkle and natural finish powder coat.

As long as the first 3 numbers match and the number of screw holes (in this case 12) are the same the part should fit perfect.

Thank-you again and all the best ...
