Default 22 nightster RH975T starting issues

Purchased the bike less than a month ago. 2022 Harley Nightster RH975T with 6 miles on it.

I rode the bike under normal conditions in Mesa, Arizona. A week after I purchased the bike and less than 100 miles of riding, I experienced a no start condition. I went to leave work one and the bike wouldn’t crank to start. I could flip the ignition switch on (key fob start no key) and attempt to press the start button. Absolutely nothing would happen when you pressed the button on top of the ignition switch to start it. I changed the battery in the key fob just to make sure it wasn’t that, it didn’t change anything.

I contacted the dealership I purchased the bike from, they promptly picked it up and took it back to the dealership. They called me the next day and told me the bike was ready to be picked up. When I picked the bike up the service manager advised me that the no start condition, along with 11 DTC’s were caused bike a lose connection going to one of the modules on the bike and they fixed the issue by simply reconnecting the plug(s) and re routing the wiring harness to help prevent the issue from happening again.

I took the bike home that day and continued to ride it for another week following that issue. Less than 9 days after the original incident occurred, I went to leave work and the bike wouldn’t start. (Less than 200 miles on the bike still at this point). I immediately contacted the dealership again, explained it was the same issue again. (Had the contact the GM of the dealership I purchased the bike from because I wasn’t able to contact anyone in the service department after several attempts for the entire day following the bike not starting again)

The dealership picked up the bike the following day (the same day I was able to contact the GM of the dealership about the problem with the bike)

I’m putting this information on here, asking if anyone else has recently purchased a 22’ Nightster recently and wondering if they have experienced any issues like this.

It’s now been 4 days since the dealership has picked up the bike for the second time for the same issues and no one from the dealership has even attempted to contact me to update me on the condition of the bike.

any advice or information would be very helpful, thank you.

Do not know what is causing the problem with your bike, but you need to visit the dealer in person to make sure they are working on your bike to sort it out.

So many times I have been informed over phone that the workshop is working on my bike only to find when visiting that nothing has been touched on the bike at all.

Since the condition has only occurred at your work location it might be related to that area. Possibly interfere from an electrical or wireless source. If it happens again move the bike 10-20 away. If it starts the location is the issue.
We had a no start at a covered gas station and others had posted similar issues. Moving the bike solved the problem.

Default No Start 2022 RH975

Hi,

i just experienced my first no start on the 22 Nightster. I bought the bike brand new and currently has 95 miles. I called the dealer and they will pick it up tomorrow. Luckily the no start happened at home on my way out.

I will post an update once I get the diagnosis from the dealer. My gut feeling this could be potentially a recall issue that will happen sooner or later

wow I’m really sorry to hear that, yes please update when you get an answer from Harley. I’m headed to the dealership tomorrow for an appointment to discuss them taking the bike back and getting a different bike.

Same problem here. Thankfully it happened in the garage and not on the road. Was a loose connector in the starter housing on the handlebar. It wasn't exactly original from factory, as I had the extended bars installed right away by the dealer and I had been moving them around slightly trying to find the most comfortable position. Think I had about 500 miles on it by then. Dealer gave me the impression that the connectors were not very robust.

Default fix for 2022 HD Nightster starting issue

I've ran into the same issue after starting the bike for the 3rd time. I felt that it wasn't a battery issue, but an ECU or computer related issue. The electrical would turn on, but it won't crank. I thought that it maybe due to the wireless key fob receiver. I decided to reset everything by removing the negative terminal on the battery and waiting a minute before plugging it back in. IT STARTED UP.
The battery is located under the radiator behind the plastic cover using three T27 star bit. The battery is using a 10mm socket. Keep these tools on hand as you never know when this issue will occur again.

i am currrently having the same issue with my nightster.. It is at Harley right now. They told me there is an open circuit that is draining the battery. That would make sense to me if it did not sit on a tender all night and still not start.

yes, I have the same problem, on each side of the air box there is an access panel. Remove it with and unplug and plug the module wires. You may have to do this to both modules. This will reset the modules and the bike should start. Harley Davidson does about the problem and I got them to ship new modules. Hopefully this will permanently fix the problem as this is a pain in the *** to unplug and plug in the modules. THE FACTORY SHOULD HAVE PUT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM

I ALSO RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM, It are the left and right hand modules. Harley Davidson says to unplug and plug back in . Connection located on each side of the air box. I am having replacements mailed to me. You idea is a temporary fix until Harley Davidson has a permanent solution. Meanwhile I am looking into a kill switch or trying to remove and insert the main fuse.
