please help with route/food suggestions in California
Hey guys,
I'll be taking a one-day "trip" from Santa Clarita up to Monterey. Google Map is telling me that I"m looking at at ~300 drive.
Any suggestions on the best scenic route and lunch stops?
Have dinner at Rio Grill near Carmel. Otherwise the restaurants at the Monterey wharf are all fairly decent IMHO if slightly expensive. But it's all expensive near Monterey!
If you don't want to do the 1 on the way up your next best choice is the 101. I would go north on the 5 over the Grapevine and take the 166 over to Santa Maria. Then north on the 101 to the G16 at Greenfield. G16 is a back country winding ranch road for several miles. Then it ends up in Carmel Valley and the 1. North a few miles and you're in Monterey.
Catch hwy 1 at Morro Bay and go north from there. Eat lunch at Big sur. Head north to Monterey. Eat dinner in Cambria on the way back and catch the sunset over diner at the Sea Chest in Cambria. I live in the area. Your going to love the ride! Best time of year to take the pch is fall and spring. Summer is hit or miss as far as fog.
