Coquihalla Hwy
Has anyone ridden in that area? BC 1, 5, 3 or even 16 on the east side of the mountains?
We're heading to Vancouver Island this year and will be by-passing the Coq in favour of Highway 99 & 3

Raggman is right. The Coq is like an interstate.
Most roads in the area are great riding. #1, 3, are older roads with more curves and slightly slower speed limits. The Coq is 120km/hr or about 75mph.
One of my favorites is 5A. Stop at the Quilchena Hotel and get them to show you the bullet holes in the saloon.
There is a motorcycle museum near Sorrento on #1. Dreamcycle I think its called.
99 is nothing short of awesome.
Pretty well anywhere in the Pacific NW is great. Cmon out.
Thankfully, there are a ton of great roads you can take instead!
Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon is nice, and also features in they show. It's possible the parts you thought would be great riding came from that highway.
Highway 8, from Spences Bridge to Merritt is a good twisty ride, but the pavement is a little dated.
Highway 12 is a good connector from Lillooet to Lytton if you wanna join Highway 99 to Highway 1, and Highway 99 (not just the Sea-to-Sky from Vancouver to Whistler, but the "Duffy" from Whistler to Lillooet) is a bucket-list ride. The ride from Whistler to Lillooet is even better than the stretch from North Vancouver to Whistler, in my opinion.
Highway 3 is great too, Highway 6 from Vernon to Nakusp is really fun and twisty, if you head that way, then 31A from New a Denver to Nakusp is also awesome, as is 3A from Kootenay Bay to Creston after the free ferry ride across from Balfour (or vice versa)
Make it all a giant loop and you'll hit some of the best riding in the world, in my opinion. Or just take some of it, you can't go wrong with any of the highways I mentioned. Although some of them are a long ways from the Coquihalla. All of them are head-and-shoulders above riding the Coquihalla.

Like others have said, the Coq is a divided fast highway with a lot of heavy hauling going on. Depending on your routing through BC, you can do much better on many other roads. It is a good route if you need to get there quick. It shaves an hour off of Kamloops to Vancouver. It is one of two 120 km/h highways in BC. [the other is the intercostal highway on Vancouver island.]
You may need to edit this for it to work but goo . gl /maps taSDqpToP112

Is a route I just built and it depends on time. It includes 3A which is a fantastic road north of Creston.
I've lived in bc for a number of years, 22 on Van Isle, 2.5 in Kamloops, and 5..? in FSJ.
Best of luck in your travel. Cranbrook Kelowna, Kamloops have Dealers if you want t-shirts or if you need service.
Vancouver has 4 Dealers.First in Chiliwack.

Having said that, all 3 times I've ever taken it on the bike because I was in a hurry, I've gotten hailed on. Bad luck aside, plan for bad weather if you end up over Pennask Summit!
