Default Adventures with the “Scorpios”

November 14, 2018.

Day 5, Ponta Delgada, Azores

Yesterday we rented a car and began our tour of the west side of the island. Lots of beautiful scenery and excellent roads to drive. They are the same as us here, and drive on the right hand side of the road.
We ventured to a village called “Furnas” where they have volcanic hot pools an then on to a visit to a tea farm on the north west side of the island.
The scenery here reminded us so much of the Cabot Trail we couldn’t resist taking some photos.
Today, we will drive to the north and the east side of the island.
More pics to follow.

Cheers, Terry

This volcanic lake pool is in the middle of the village of Furnas. You can actually swim in this pool and believe it or not we did. Super warm water.

Default Adventures with the “Scorpios”

November 15, 2018.

Day 6, Ponta Delgada, Azores.

Yesterday we drove the northwestand western end of the island. A well worth while excursion with spectacular seaside and Mountain View’s.
Our first stop was at a rum distillery (Mulher) in Ribeira Grande on the north shore of the island.
From there we ventured along the north shore on a twisting winding seaside road. The views along this route where absolutely spectacular! As I said before it reminded us in part of the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton.
Then is was onto the volcanic lake (Lagoa Azul) in Sete Cidades. Once there we proceeded up the side of the volcanic cliffs on switchbacks stopping along the way at view points for taking photos.
Suzie and I would both say this is a “Must-do” if you ever vacation on this island.
One more day here after today and then we head back to the cold Canada climate.
Enjoy the photos!

Cheers, Terry

Default Adventures with the “Scorpios”

November 20, 2018.

Suzie and I returned to Canada from the Azores on Saturday November 17, 2018.
To highlight the good parts, we had a awesome time on the island of Sao Miguel for the week we vacationed there. It was truly very picturesque as you can see by the photos we shared.
Now for the “not so good part”.
The flights there and back were absolutely terrible. We flew direct out of Toronto to Ponta Delgada on Azores Airlines.
Our flight on November 9th was scheduled to leave Toronto at 8:40 pm. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time only to find out our flight had been delayed until midnight (12:00 am). No explanation and not an Azores Airline employee to be found!
Then to top it off at 10:00 pm we hear an announcement that our plane was delayed further until 1:30 am. By the time we boarded the plane and left Toronto it was 2:30 am!
Once on the plane we ran into the “most miserable” flight crew Suzie and I had ever come across in all our travels. They were rude and very unaccomodating! Then at 3:30 in the morning they were shoving a roast beef dinner in front of us.
So all in all we ended up arriving in Ponta Delgada some 5-1/2 hour as behind schedule.
The flight home on the 17th was no better. Another delay in leaving Ponta Delgada, and once again not a single explanation!
It was a 5-1/2 hour flight to the island and a 6-1/2 hour flight home.
This is the only airline we have ever been on, that once in the air could make a 6-1/2 hour flight back to Toronto last for 7-1/2 hours!
We would definitely not recommend this airline to anyone, as we soon learned that delayed flights are the norm for them.

But, now we are home, and will deal with the colder weather and snow until we go away in 6 weeks on another adventure.

Cheers and thanks for following! Hope you enjoyed the Photos.

Terry

Default Adventures with the “Scorpios”

December 31, 2018.

Hi Folks!
The next adventure in the life of the Scorpios has begun. We left Toronto yesterday (Sunday) and are now settled in on the island of Aruba for a two week stay.
We arrived later than expected. A small plane delay and we left and hour and a half late.
But, from 30F to 85F, we will suffer with the 5-1/2 hour flight.
I will be posted pictures once we get out and do some excursions on the island after the New Years celebration here.
Happy New Year to everyone!

Cheers, Terry

Enjoy the Azores, looks beautiful hadn't thought about them in awhile.

I passed thru Lajes Field a few times in the 70's, I was assigned and flying missions in the middle east and we went thru the Azores a few times.

This was before, during and after the Iranian hostage situation, so i didn't get to do much sight seeing, but did spend a few nights on the town.

Another place i liked that i'll probably never get back to.
