Half Helmet and rain

Back in '75, three of us left Detroit and headed for Florida. We made a couple of stops and basically made it a three day ride.
Not being used to the sun that far south (and being a fair-haired Caucasian) by the time we made it to Key Largo, my face, nose, and lips were burnt really badly (in the pics, I look like a cooked lobster!)
After trying just about every ointment I could find, the three of us agreed that we had "seen enough" of Florida and headed north.
We got caught in heavy rainstorm (with no face shields) and if you want to talk about pain resulting from rain hitting your face, try it with a severe sunburned face and lips!!!

G'day mates,
I hope you 2 guys below and everyone else has a fantastic, fantastic week coming up.
I hear what you are saying and it is pretty common I just do not understand it.
Yes, we all need to be more careful in the rain and we all know about easing up or not using the front brake depending upon the situation.
To me, riding in the rain is getting you closer to nature. To smell the rain, to feel your body totally so to the bone in a heavy rain is one of the greatest feelings ever. Unless it is a cold rain, that is why I carry light and heavy rain suits.
But one of the greatest joys is riding in the rain.
It seems to me my friend, you learned a couple of lessons on this trip. Very sorry to hear about your pain. That is so, so unpleasant.
I ride every day and am mostly in South Florida so I cover-up top to bottom and not one bit of my skin is showing the vast majority of the time.
If you prefer suntan lotion (I do not) but as you likely know that needs to be applied 20 minutes before you go out and then every few hours. Or figure at every gas stop or so. Helio plaques by Neutrogena 55 or higher (higher does not make it work better it is strictly a marketing item) I have found work best. But I also found the fumes have blinded me a few times at stop lights when it comes off my face up into my eyes. Very scary.
Did you at least like your ride to South Florida? Things to do, things to see, etc.? Hopefully that was enjoyable.

The above works.
Bandanna or one of those tubes works good.
