Does anyone use the half helmet with retractable sun shield in the rain? If so how well does it work? I understand that a full face is the best and open face with shield is next but we prefer the half helmet style.
Have the same thing but the HJC one. Does a pretty decent job in the rain. I se the HD is like the HJC in that the shield that comes with it is barely tinted. At least for the HJC I was able to buy a darker shiels for 22 bucks. Helmet was 99 bucks I think.

I also have the HJC version. I got an amber shield and it does very well in the rain.
I use a half helmet when I'm in a state that feels it needs to protect me from myself.
I've been caught in the rain plenty. The half helmet keeps the rain from pounding my forehead and I always weare goggles in the rain. Between the helmet and the goggles, the most sensitive parts of the face are covered.
My biggest problem in the rain is having my glasses fog up and reduce visibility. That's why I always use goggles.
My helmet is an HD, but I don't think there's much difference between brands. Can't imagine the little visor makes any difference at all.

Hi, only my opinion but regarding the comment "but we prefer the half helmet style.".....I would go with comfort and safety.....you will be happier in the long run...
I use the Men's Hybrid Ultra-Light Ride Ready Hybrid Half Helmet with a universal face shield. I wear regular HD clear glasses under the shield. I do not have any fogging issues and very little rain reaches my face. Mainly on the lips and chin. Even at 75mph, I do not get pelted. It is more like a light drizzle. I just experienced this yesterday when the local weather guesser was typically wrong.

I have the Scorpion half helmet. Nice helmet and it has the retractable smoke colored visor. Nice untill it rains. In the rain it sucks. Last thing I want in the rain is a darker shield. But it also fogs up and water drops swirl up behind the shield so they are on the inside. If it rains you HAVE to retract the shield. It cuts viability in half. Best in the rain I have used is my HJC Symax full face.
i wear glasses for me the short sheilds let my glasses get wet and its just even more layers of water to look through,in rain i go with a 3/4 with intergrated face shield it will keep my glasses dry.
I don't have one the retracts but I do use the HD half hybrid with a face shield. Been using it since they first came out. Works good for me in rain & snow.
