The little folding compact chairs are great to have and mine is pretty comfortable even with my bad back. Beats sitting on the ground or on a picnic table for long!!! Never seen those Thermarest cots so now I'm studying those. My Thermarest pad left a little to be desired on this trip since there was gravel under my tent with a few larger rocks. A cot would be really nice next year at the Chip! A little hard to see but chair in front of my tent.

If you got room...chair is a big help.

Have used the 'room every 3 or 4 nights too. In the old days, watching some weather was important. Not so much no more.
Have seen the shed idea before. Never thought of that years ago. Have been run off from car washes before. Spent the night in several barns after asking also.

Well, my number one resource for campsites is https://freecampsites.net/ People will post many free sites with pics and sometimes video, give reviews and directions, tell you if there is cell signal available and other things.

I take a 2 person Alps Mountaineering Lynx tent, kind of wish I had the 3 or 4 person version for a little more space, but the 2 person is fine. It has a rain fly and two vestibules to keep gear dry that you don't want in the tent with you.
Take a tarp that I mostly use as a floor saver for the tent, by setting my tent up on top of it.
I use a Coleman All Terrain Single high Airbed. It uses a little thicker plastic than most airbeds and still rolls up pretty small for travel. Gets me about 9 inches off the ground. Have to take a small battery powered air pump for it.
small blow up air pillow and pillow case, I put my jacket or clothes in the pillow case and then the blow up billow which is pretty small goes in the case on top of the other filler.
I take my old military issued poncho liner to lay down as a sheet for the air mattress if camping in the cold. It has a bit of insulation to help block cold air.
My sleeping bag is kind of big and I'm thinking of replacing. Currently use a surplus US govt. modular sleeping system. The whole thing has four parts, an intermediate bag, a heavy bag, a goretex bivy shell and a compression case. I sometimes only take the intermediate bag. For cold weather, both the heavy and intermediate which combine to form one bag. Even compressed it still takes up a lot of space. I never take the bivy portion on the bike, as I use a tent.
I use a 2.5 liter Camelbak knock off. Mine is a Condor and cheaper but does the same thing, carries water. I usually strap this down
I agree with a camp chair. I use the Moon Lence ultralight highback chair. Its rated for 300lbs folds up small and is pretty comfortable with a little padded head rest.
I carry a Condor 3 day assualt back pack. Have had this bag for about 4 and a half years and its got over 15,000 miles on the backs of my bikes and works great. Holds a crap load of stuff and tons of points to tie down to or strap to.
Use a little cargo net too.
I have an old flight bag that I was issued in the military, its canvas that has been water treated on the inside, I still line it with a large heavy duty garbage bag for my sleeping stuff, but it carries my lighter camp gear and straps to my luggage rack.
Speaking of straps, I use Rok Motorcycle straps. Those things are great. I use both the one inch versions and half inch versions. They blow regular bungee cords away for use on a bike.
I like to take a military style entrenching tool (e-tool). They fold up to about 7 inches by 6 inches by about 2 inches. Can use to dig a privy pit, trench around your tent, can hammer in tent stakes, can also use it as a hatchet for wood. You just have to be careful about where you get them as I think there are a lot of cheap knock offs that use cast metal prone to braking.
I also like a little hand held firewood cutter. I have one that looks like about 3 feet of chainsaw chain with handles on each end. unlike a typical chainsaw blade this one has teeth in both directions and you use it like a saw. It cuts pretty good, and folds up into a tiny pouch.
I use a small one plug power inverter to power/charge my Surface and a few other items off my bike's dc connection. Take a portable jump start battery as well to charge phone/cameras/Sena when away from the bike.
Rain gear
zip ties
gorilla tape
electrical tape
550 para chord
knife
I have a CCW so I take my 1911 with a couple spare mags. If travelling through a state that does not recognize my CCW, I lock the 1911 up in its case then lock it in one saddle bag, the mags get locked in the other saddle bag.
take a few small tools a tire patch kit and small tire inflator.
Flip flops/shower shoes. didn't think to bring these last year and bought a set at a travel gas station. probably over paid and the selection was limited so I have a set of "Batman" flip flops.
Sun screen/ lip balm
a couple lighters/mini torch.
flashlight, head mounted light, little tent light.

I tend to take more crap than I need, but still haven't been able to brake myself of the "better to have and not need than to need and not have" mentality.

Pic from trip from last year. Looks like I did bring the bivy on this trip but not my poncho liner.

My chair only takes up about a 10" x 4" x 3" space. Very very compact when folded and in it's storage bag and weighs maybe a pound.

All good information and I like the specifics for someone new. I camp a lot single and out west, there is always a swale, hummock, or forest road where camping is okay. That said, it is not like it was even 10 years ago, where I could pull up almost anywhere. Abondoned barns and sheds had roads leading up to them, now they are blocked by fences and marked "no trespassing ". Therefore, when the misses stays home and I need to roam alone, I will try www.freecampsites.net. Each year it gets harder to find a quiet spot. Many of the ares I had camped in even 15-20 years ago are now developments, condos, mini malls and worse. But this is the west, and west of the Dakotas you can still find quiet camping away from the urban centers. It used to be 10 miles away, now it is more like 40 miles away you can find a forest service or BLM road and a nice spot. But I will try your website, thanks.
