[QUOTE=larryhorner;18120583]Wife & I will be staying in Ashville TN for about a week, and we'd like to ride from there down to the Dragon area, do some riding, stay the night, and ride back up to TN. Can anyone suggest a place to stay? Route suggestions from there would be appreciated too, although I've gotten LOTS of great ideas from the posts above! Thanks![/
I stayed in Asheville, it’s in NC not TN . It’s a cool little town just about half way between Maggie Valley and Little Switzerland . You can get to the Dragon too, it’s a bit further south but doable.
We rode from Asheville to MV Wheels Through Time museum , BRP, The Rattler day 1 , next day BRP to LS great roads throughout the area. Enjoy
Stayed at Quality Inn downtown Tunnel rd, biker friendly, very clean, good free breakfast and minuets to BRP and all restaurants
Done the tail about 12-15 times now solo and 2up, its ok as long as I can ride my ride and not too many interruptions from behind...Way too many other roads... And I too like the little diner onWayah rd. Lakes End I think its what its called, stopped there last fall for a sammich.
There are 12 (bikes) going down the end of April to run "The Dragon". Some have done it and some have not. Sounds interesting though. hope the weather holds out
If you can. The missing Link Bridge should not be missed. On the Foot hills parkway. Between Townsend and Wear valley TN Just out side Pigeon Forge TN. It now claims to be the the best view in the smoky mountains. 52 years in the build it was opened not long ago.
This is one should you fail to ride it while near by , you may regret it. It is open now.
"One factor that has taken this one section so long to finish is the fact that it has required a series of 10 bridges over the course of a 1.6-mile subsection of the link. As of June 2017, all bridge and retaining wall structures along this length were completed, and currently, the entire 16-mile span of roadbed is being prepped for paving. Right now, it's expected that the missing link will be open to traffic by some time this winter, either late 2018 or early 2019."
