Need Advice: upper 4 corner ride idea?
I'm starting from South Florida where I live, and stopping by old Army Buds of mine as I move up the eastern side of the US... North Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, then Missouri, staying with friends... My question and uneducated area is getting from Missouri to San Jose, California... where my wife will fly into and then we will hit the Pacific Coast Highway down to LA or San Diego. From there we will move across back towards Florida HOME, but wanted to ride through the Three Sisters in Texas, another area I'm unfamiliar with, if not out of the way.
So, My Questions:
What's the best way to get West from East? Should I go higher up through Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon... or a more middle area from Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and Utah then dip South towards Las Vegas towards my San Jose destination?
What main road(s) should I take from East to West? During that part of the ride I still would like to see some of America, but don't need scenic motorcycle trails. I need to get to the West in a reasonable time... guessing 3 to 5 days???
Any advice for the ride down the Pacific Coast Highway? From San Jose down to LA, I'm thinking 3 to 5 days??? Reasonable?
Is the Three Sisters in Texas on my way, or not to far out of my way heading back home? Or is Three Sisters even worth the ride? Hearing different opinions on that one?
And finally... anything else you can advise? You got my basic ride idea, want to avoid major cities as much as possible, but also want to see a lot of the America, I never have... but will be taking many trips to national Parks in 2021 and 2022... this trip is mainly to visit old friends, none that leave on the West side of the US... but wife and I wanted to do the PCH... why I added it.
THANKS... for any advice or info... Will be camping most nights, say 2 nights then a hotel on the 3rd... for a proper rest.
Agree with Bill, April would be tough in the north areas, maybe on the way back, and southern route out to San Jose.
Sounds like a great trip !
I can help with direction from SJ and south on PCH:
San Jose, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara, Ventura.
How badly do you want to go any further south to LA?
San Diego is great but you have to go through LA to get here. And 1 day is not enough to see SD.
I suggest going as far south on PCH to Ventura. Then head east to Santa Clarita.
From there go through Mojave Desert Hwy 40 to Williams Az and to South Rim Grand Canyon.
Options from there are Flagstaff, Gallup NM, Albuquerque.
More scenic is through Navajo country and Monument Valley:
Grand Canyon, Tuba City Az, Kayenta, Monument Valley, Mexican Hat, Mexican Water, Farmington NM, Albuauerque.
I cant help you from there.

Pismo Beach is a neat CA beach town. Make a short trip into it.
Be sure and go into Solvang. A little Scandinavian Village.
Also Short trip into Williams on way to Grand Canyon. Neat little Route 66 town.
Grand Canyon and Monument Valley are indescribable. You have to see them for yourself. Take a good camera.
Be sure and take route 64 Desert View Drive out of Grand Canyon park towards East Entrance of canyon and Cameron, AZ. It has some amazing look outs over the canyon without the crowds.
Be aware there are no services between Tuba City AZ and Kayenta. Fill up before headed that way. Top off in Kayenta
let me add. Stop at Moss Landing between Santa Cruz and Castroville. Eat at Phil’s Fish. World famous cioppino.
