Even then, when I run low on money I head out to the interstate and stop at a Home Depot or Lowes that have display sheds (after closing); pull the bike in, crash for the night and wake up 60 bucks richer
Got a chuckle from me and when wife asked what I was chuckling about read your post and she replied “that’s GENIUS!”

Couple of pals at work got a good laugh as well. In fact, I stopped at Lowe's today while I was out, just to check out the sheds.

I just did a two day run down into Montana and back.... it was about 600 miles overall... so about 300 a day for me sounds about right.

Default Ironbutt

Bought the 2014 Ultra in April of that year. In June for Father’s Day rode with the rising sun on my back and put over 500 miles in that direction. Turned around and rode back with the setting sun on my back sand completed the saddlesore 1000 Ironbutt ride. A little over 19 hours.

It's gotten easier with a smart phone. I can locate (via the web) store locations and use Google Maps street view to scope the "housing" before committing to heading that direction.

When going out to Sturgis, SD. I like riding the 1st. day the longest. About 400-475 miles. 2nd day, the shortest. I remember coming home from the rally. It was 104* all the way across SD. We stopped at a place called Le Mars, Iowa. Home of Blue Bunny Ice Cream. They have an Ice cream Parlor to die for. I think it save us. Best ever. Just saying. Just remember, going out is more fun than coming home. It's all about the adventure. Ride safe.

It's been a while--over seven years now--since I did a long trip. But during that time, I was covering 600-700 per day. On a Sportster, even.

I'm hoping to get some trips going in the coming years where I'll plan to hit 300-400 per day with lots of stops and scenery. There's just so much to see!

For me it depends on what the purpose of my trip is and what day it is. On a smell the roses type of trip I will knock out 600-750 miles or more the first day. That gives me the cushion I need in order to take a more relaxed pace of 300-500 miles where I will stop at things I pass of interest, or I may have a planned stop such as a museum or something similar I want to spend some time visiting. I try to stop around 5-6pm so I can enjoy a relaxed dinner at a local restaurant, and will be in the road by 6-7am.

If I have a purpose my riding will be such to accommodate that purpose. For example, I participate in Tour of Honor and try to visit as many of the memorials on their list as I can. I will ride from 6am until dark, maybe an hour or two later if I am setting myself up for the next day. I take time at most of the memorials reading them and checking out any others that are at that same location. I will also stop and see other things of interest to me as well. On these rides I may do 500-800 miles a day and many of those miles may be on back roads which is where most of the cool stuff is.

If I am trying to get to a place by a specific time I will ride as long as it takes, normally up to 1,000 miles a day and 18 or so hours depending on conditions. In these cases the bike is merely a means of transportation but it's still more enjoyable than flying.

And lastly if I am competing in a rally I will be doing approximately 1,000 or more miles a day. Most are about 30-34 hours long, however I have ridden in the Butt Lite (6 days and 5700 miles) and have completed the Iron Butt Rally twice (11 days and 8700 or 9200 miles). These are 800-1000+ mile days and I am stopping for various photos multiple times for the day. My last days in the Butt Lite and 2017 IBR were approximately 25 hours long.

I get it that not everyone gets the same enjoyment in the same way out of riding as others. I personally enjoy riding and can say I enjoy pushing myself to do 5,000 miles in 5 days for a piece of paper for the sense of accomplishment, riding in a rally to see how high I can place, and the leisurely trip meandering about the country doing my impression of a child with a 2 minute attention span - Oh look, a shiny thing, lets go see what it is

And most of this riding is on my 2006 Sportster which just turned 249,000 miles on my last trip which was a 3,200 mile 5 1/2 day trip to attend my uncle's funeral in Oklahoma (4 1/2 riding). I also have a Heritage Softail which I use for my local around town trips or for when my wife wants to go for a ride
