Check out Million Dollar Bogan (Daniel Hayes) on YouTube if you haven't already done so. He has ridden Harley-Davidson motorcycles all over the world and documented the trips on his YouTube channel. His next adventure is to travel from Geelong, Australia to Perth, Australia and back to raise money for men's mental health. The round trip will cover over 6,500 kilometers (4,000 miles). The crazy part is he is doing the trip on one of these:
That's cool. I love the Monkey, brings back fond memories of the Mini Trails of the 70's. I suggested to the wife that we get two for our BRP travels and she did not bite!
I had Z-50 back in 1966. I cannot remember how many times my Ole Man welded on that thing because I kept breaking **** doing jumps with it. It was a lot fun.
Although the Monkey wouldn't be my first choice for a long off road adventure, it seems like a hell of a better choice than some of the larger motorcycles he has used that weren't designed or properly modified for off road use. If I were going to modify a Harley for a long off road ride it would probably be something like an Evo powered Sportster or maybe an XR750 if I could find one, not any of the big twin on the road touring bikes.
The feeling of being on a Monkey would be really strange after being used to being on a HD though. Every time I get on my 1200 Sporty after being used to riding an Ultra it already feels like being on a dirt bike.
Cool little bikes but Honda is very proud of them, just look at the price. I was going to buy one for a pit bike we could throw in the race trailer but the wife can't touch the ground on it.
Y'all have to understand that Daniel is not your "normal" motorcycle rider. He tends to take things to the extreme, like riding a Road King Special across some of the most rugged terrain in Australia, and does many things like this that most of us would never consider. Basically, he's nuts, but in a good way.
Yea he's hilarious. I'm not rich, but he makes it seem like having lots of money allows him to be carefree about his machines like that. Seems like a great way to go through life. Fun guy!
