Looking to make the trip from Ohio to Wisconsin hopefully this summer. Any good route recommendations, must-see places along the way? Main goal of the trip is to visit the factory and museum.
Chicago is hell if you don't pick your times correctly. I'd go around it.
Wife goes from Ft. Wayne to Rockford, IL 3-5 times a year to see her daughter and kids. She's a pro at it and goes around (I-80 to I-294); picks her time to get there late AM or early PM. I did that route on my way back from the Black Hills last August on a Sat AM. Traffic was no big deal. I went back and forth that way dozens of times in the 1980s.
When I do go through Chicago, I leave home around 5:00 AM. Then I go right through Chicago downtown around 10:30 AM local time. Usually can get through quickly if there is no problem on the highway.
The most direct route seems pretty boring, plus you couldn’t pay me enough to ride through Shitcago. I’d make it a much more interesting , albeit longer, ride, such as a giant loop like this:

I've done that loop ( minus the trek back to Cleveland ) several times, several ways and it really is a nice ride ... adding the ferry makes it unique too
