Live Interactive Worldwide Map
In what unit, when and where was your father deployed to France? Some US units came in june 1944 during the D-Day operation at the Normandy beaches.
Other US units entered France in august in the Provence.
If you are interested I could help you find some more WW2 info.
Here's a link to some info on Operation Dragoon
I'm not sure what unit he was in. The next time I see my aunt, I will ask her if she remembers. She is 96, but still very active.
Dad passed away 22 years ago, but I think I remember him telling me that he was a medic or medic assistant and they went in doing recovery after the invasion at Normandy, which is further north My daughter has some of his things packed away in boxes. He didn't talk much about the war - probably because his job was pretty gruesome. I remember him talking a little about being close to Paris, but he never made it to that city.
I appreciate the information that you have provided. It is on my bucket list to re-visit France and possibly other European countries.
With the help of the maps that have been created for the HDF, it should make it easier to fulfill my bucket list of places to see both here in the U. S. and abroad.
It was an awesome idea and all of you are doing a magnificent job, Thank you.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback on putting some route info on HDF.
Sorry to read your father passed away that long ago. May he rest in peace! Being an NLD Army veteran I'm gratful for his service!
Please be sure of the fact that over here in Europe we (at least my generation) are still grateful Allied Forces helped us to free from from the evil suppressor!
Our club -Red Beret Riders- every year organizes a memorial ride to honour and commemorate the brave who gave all and visit WW2 military cemetaries and conduct a wreath laying ceremony!
Once again, if you need more info just hit me up either over here or by PM
Some more info in these tracks is to be found at the Moturisme website
