Road Trips
Thia year was supposed to be the southwest then the rally. I ended up riding out to the mountains on our west coast. It was actually better than I thot possible. Nice to see my own country on the bike for once. But I missed seeing all the Sturgis friends Ive met iver the years.
Ive got 3yrs worth of routes already plugged into the HD route planner. This years cancelled trip to the southwest, a trip to Nashville (again), and the Rt66 going west.
If the border is still closed next year, Ill go back to the west coast in BC. There is no way I dont get a road trip on the bike every year!
If somehow the border opens over the winter, there will absolutely be some scoots in the trailer heading south!
Planning several trips for next year. Trailering the bike down to FL in March for a few weeks with a long stop in MS on the way home. Used to live in Hattiesburg, Aberdeen and Madison (13 years total). Want to stop and see some old friends. May be looking for a second home there.
Went back East to see friends and family in PA, NY, MA in 2018 and 2019. Will probably pass on that direction in 2021. Would like to go out West again; went to Sturgis and surrounding areas in 2019 and would like to see Colorado in 2021.
Would also like to head up to Lake Superior area. Did a motorcycle trip up there in 1977 and would like to revisit the UP. Will start up through IL and WI and loop around Lake Michigan. Probably in late summer after CO trip.
Lots of tentative plans. Hope Covid is pretty much over by late Spring.
If you do Nashville, go to Loveless Café at the end of the Natchez Trace for breakfast.

"Hope Covid is pretty much over by late Spring." That's what we thought last spring, right?
Where is that bridge you have in your picture? I feel like I have been there but cannot recall the location.
We only did a few weekend rides in 2020 due to the bug.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Disregarding the idea that Kansas is nothing but a flat, tree-less area, the state and county highways are fine for riding. More curves and hills than you might expect. Nothing like CO or many other states, but enough to keep it from becoming boring. Well, OK. Some roads were flat and boring, but it sure beats NOT riding!
First part of September I rode to see a friend who lives north of Knoxville, TN. Just rode there...spent a couple night in a nearby motel and rode home. Beautiful country. Photo below is a few of us sitting around telling lies. (Me on the far left.)
About 6 weeks ago my friend and I road rode to Templeton Iowa. Why, you ask? Well, my son bought a bottle of Templeton Rye whiskey for me. It was good stuff, too. I looked at the label to discover that it was distilled in Templeton, Iowa. ROAD TRIP! Templeton is a small town, but it has a huge history of distilling whiskey legally, and during prohibition they made lots of it illegally. Templeton Rye is still run by a family member of the original bootleggers and "criminals" who made the stuff way back then. They have a small, but informative museum in the building, too. It's worth the trip if you're in the area. For what it's worth, their regular 6 year old stuff tastes just as good to me as their 10 year old (and much more expensive) rye. Of course, I'm no authority on whiskey. Those of you who are whiskey connoisseurs may disagree with me. <shrug> Rode home via Fremont and Lincoln NE to see some friends and relatives for a few minutes.
