Planning a week or so to ride from central NH to Niagara Falls, possibly on to Columbus. Any suggested routes or at least highways and roads to stay away from? I've never traveled through upstate NY so any suggested sites, scenic routes, hotels, or destination cities would be appreciated. I really have no idea what NY state has to offer in terms of motorcycle travel but I don't want to just hit the Interstate and drone for hours. I like back roads, scenic routes, but want to avoid any gravel or dirt. Looking at the map I recognize place names but don't know if I should ride through those areas.
Any ideas or suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks, that map has some interesting suggestions. There's a route on that map from Ticonderoga NY to Rooseveltown NY. From Rooseveltown what would be the suggested, scenic route to Niagara Falls? Take 37 to 3 to 104?
Any favorites West of Lake Placid if I went through there?
It all really depends on how youre coming across into NY. You could come down through the adirondacks and old forge on 28 which is a very scenic route. Keep coming south to Rt 20 and take that west all the way or hop on I90 to make some time if need be. Lots of great country riding, cant really go wrong.
Any questions let me know and Ill try and help the best I can.
I have never ridden it, but I have driven to upstate NY several times, from MA, when my nephew was stationed up there. Its gorgeous areas for riding. I dont have any suggestions, but I plan on making a trip to Niagara sometime this year.

I agree with this route^^^^^^ if you have time , make a loop around Seneca Lake [spend a night there] then rt 20 west is your best bet.If you can cross the border, the Canadien side of the Falls is much better than the US side
Even Rt. 90 going through Herkimer County is pretty. A little out of the way, but head down west side Canandaigua lake to Naples. Great ride, wonderful scenery. Or, Go north towards Sodus Pt. go West on Lake Road towards Webster, then back south to104. A very nice ride. Most bikers around here hit that a couple times per month.
