When I moved to Wisconsin in 1982, it was filled with supper clubs and good bar/restaurants, where you get a good fish fry on Friday nights. The food was plentiful, inexpensive, delicious and the drinks were good, and inexpensive. Bartenders knew how to make regional drinks like Brandy Old Fashioneds, Brandy Manhattans and ice cream drinks for dessert. Like Grasshoppers or Golden Cadillacs.
Now it’s getting harder to find true regional restaurants. Tonight we went to a fish fry at a local bar that’s been around for years. The entrance is an old barrel, and the decor is unique. The workers are mostly UWSP college kids. They’re smart, they hustle and they’re good looking, not like my wrinkly face.
When I travel I prefer to eat at locally owned establishments that serve regional specialties. I don’t want the same old chain food I could’ve had at home. Let’s start a thread that recommends local restaurants/bars that let you know how the locals eat.
You said you were looking for restaurants that can make "Brandy Old Fashioneds, Brandy Manhattans and ice cream drinks for dessert. Like Grasshoppers or Golden Cadillacs.".......
Lost me there. I want good food. If the emphasis is on 1950's dessert drinks, I'm out of there before I order.....

This place doesnt have them so youre safe. You wont find them many places, because supper clubs are dying out. I was hoping to have a positive thread, but Im not surprised it took only two posts before a buzzkill with no positive contribution had to **** on my thread. Why dont you post one restaurant that is fine dining, and local regional food?
If you find yourself in Texas Hill Country, and you like a good burger, I recommend Alamo Springs Cafe. There's been more than one occasion that I've jumped on the bike with no other intention than to go there, grab a burger and a beer.
When we’re on the road my wife always finds the Mom&Pops type places to eat, never franchised restaurants. She usually bases choice by recent reviews and is more often accurate than not. The next best is asking a local.
