I’ve tried that Dan… But usually what happens is that I end up trying to take the bed also…

My wife packing for a one week trip on the bike

Actually that was just for laughs---my wife can pack both mine and hers for a 2 week trip into 2 bags for the luggage rack and the saddlebags

Don't know how she does it--Amazes me!!!!!!!!

Similar to this pic with a small flat bag tied on top [not my bike]

Some great tips here from veterans of the road! I myself only started long trips over a year ago. Before that I was a 2 hour day rider unless some event was happening. The UL changed how long I ride! Backrest, correct supplies, correct gear, snacks etc...... Love this forum! My hard rule is to stop at least every 2 hours to stretch. (Bad back) Sometimes I just want to keep going but I force myself to stop and I never regretted it. I'm itching for the first week of May to get here for a week in Pennsylvania country.

Reminds me...several years ago I had bought a new trunk, saddlebag liners and a seat bag for a long trip I was planning. It was January and I was sitting on the floor with all the gear and packing and repacking and deciding what I should bring.
My wife was watching and finally asks "what are you doing?" Told her I was packing for a trip. She says, "when are you leaving?" Me "June". Shakes her head and walks away.
When I'm packing gear for a trip it seems to start well and then the "what if's" start. What if this happens, what if I need this and then I bring too much.

When I head out on an extended motorcycle camping adventure… of course, I always leave stuff at home… But with the exception of my dog and my daughter, there isn’t a single thing back there that I couldn’t walk away from in a heartbeat…

… on my way to somewhere … with everything I need with me… Of course, the dog stayed home…

No I did not, I only considered a different bike. Bought a 2009 Ultra Classic and that solved my seat problem, my no radio problem, and my cruise control problem.
