Hey guys, didn't do a search so I hope this hasn't been asked a thousand times.. but here goes. I am planning on going to see a couple friends of mine. They are about 750 miles away. I took a week off work to go down. I am curious how many miles you guys average a day? I know some of you can straight put miles down but, I'm not sure I have allotted enough time for a 1500 mile round trip.. Oh ya I'm going to be riding my '02 Softail Deuce. I'm hoping to get 3-400 per day so about two days there and two back. I know there are so many variables but, just wanting to know your guys take.
Thanks
I like to go 500 on interstate, and 350 on state highways. Myself I like to go fast to get where I am going to have more time to enjoy myself. Plus there are a lot of boring roads out there. I am also on touring bikes.
A lot of it is how early you leave. You leave with dawn in the summer, nice weather, long days, and you might do it in a day, if you wanted to. Other wise pick a town you want to spend night, and figure when you want to get in to destination. ride for few hours after work on Friday, and then get in early on Saturday.
When I am riding I usually ride late, don't feel like sitting in motel.
Some guys hate interstates, but I hate being stuck behind semis. Interstates suck around big cities, but so do all the roads. You get past the big city, and usually the same as highway, except you can pass the semi. Obviously part of the country varies. but out west I'd rather ride interstate. Its the same plains, or same corn field as highway, just less time with the corn.

That's a good balance and you can do some nice casual sightseeing along the way staying off the super slabs dodging endless truck convoys. 300-400 was my target daily on road trips not riding hard doing the sights.
Interstates out west are different. I90/94 are not the same scenery as the state roads. Really depends where you are at.
But to this discussion, I would pick a town I want to spend night, and figure when i want to get in to destination. To medium days, one short day, and one normal. You leave early in morning in summer, and you may be at motel at 3 bored.
4-500 miles, tank to tank, break for lunch/dinner somewhere. 750 or so is the longest I can do before my pain sets in, but that can be pushed aside depending what the ride is for. Duece, may be a different story, not a touring bike, no wind break. When I was younger, didn't matter, quite beatup now.
how often do YOU ride? and for how long/many miles?
750 miles is a short hop for some, and a year's total, for others...
Easiest thing to do is take a break every hour or 100 miles., particularly if you don't ride far, too often.
One hour/90 minutes is usually do-able, and while you might feel like you're getting nowhere, you will arrive fresher... wouldn't hurt to do 500 miles the first day, then 250 the second
