Average miles
When I did the Asheville run, I was on a 2013 Dyna Switchback, with a cam, good suspension and perfect ergos for seat, handlebar and windshield. For me, ergos and comfort have to be well sorted, or else things that are "little things" during the first hour or two of riding, become obnoxiously "big things" after 3-4 hours and trying to make miles quickly. And.....gotta have good suspension (especially an HD), otherwise the ride becomes fatiguing quickly.
I picked up my first touring bike last year, a 2022 RG 107 w/ HD Stage II Torque cam, Ohlins HD 044's and Traxxion AR25 fork kit, with a well sorted riding position in the Mustang Supertour Deluxe, KST 12" Straight Jackets and Freedom Shields 15" Sport Tour windshield. This setup is so much better for logging miles than the Switchback was. Looking forward to the Iron Butt ride....
OP, for 1.500 miles, I'd plan 300- 350 miles a day. Unless you and your buddy's are focused on "covering miles", this will give you a good mix of highway speeds and more country road stuff, with stopping a seeing some things here and there. If you needed, you can blip out 400-500 miles without drama to slog back home or whatever.
Eureka Springs AR. Spring fling rally. Spent a lot of time volunteering here. Several rides around where I forgot to take pictures.... normal for me. Going back this month. Maybe I'll do better
