Northern central NC, I'll ride to work at least once or twice a week through winter.
If Siri tells me that the temps are in the 30's at 7:00 a.m. (and dry,) I'm on the bike typically. (I draw the line at the 20's nowadays...)

(We haven't seen an appreciable snowfall in 3 plus years now.)

When I lived in Va. I'd ride often in the winter. Out here in the Rockies the riding season is significantly less. I came back from VA. last week to 2 days of shoveling snow. Good luck with your winter adventures.

I dont ride in the winter to prove anything, I need it to keep my sanity lol. I've lived all over the country, very few places (Erie PA, Western NY, UP where I can see being stranded for months. Otherwise, there is always a day where you can get out even for a short ride.

I used to live just outside Watertown but towards Adams and Barnes Corners, the distance between the two is about 10 miles, but twenty inches of snow difference on Saturdays snow.
Lake effect is just crazy two miles can mean a trace of snow vs feet.

Good luck with your winter riding.

I ride with a 5/8 helmet all year. Even in the rain. I own 2 FF helmets, but prefer open. 🤷‍♂️

I've, recently, found that riding with heated gear is a game changer. The initial $$ is big, but the comfort is immeasurable.

If you look in the upper right corner of this post you'll see where I ride. I'm in the NW part of FL and frequently end up in southern GA and Lower Alabama. From late December to early February we can get 20'sh degree temps in the morning. Kinda brisk for a Florida boy.

In my defense, I have hated the “W” word for years and don’t admit its existence any longer than I have to.

Yup, I stay pretty comfortable with a heated liner and gloves. We ride down to Bikeweek every year and seen our share of weather end of Feb. Several years ago, it was in the low 20’s when we left and never got above 30 for about 8 hours. Plus snow/sleet thru the mountain passes between Roanoke and Statesville. Now that was a miserable ride.
