Got out for only 75 miles today mostly due to crazy last minute shoppers acting crazy on the roads. Ended up at my watering hole to catch the PSU-SMU playoff game.
Today was a real polar bear ride but with heated gear, I was good. At 80 mph, I could feel my finger tips tingling a bit inside my heated gloves, lol! Next 10 days look balmy by comparison, mostly in the 40s for highs. Got about 100 miles in today.
The Carolina Girl and I rode 108 miles today. It was 37 degrees when we left home at 10:30am, and 54 degrees when we returned home at 3:45pm.
We started at Cracker Barrel in Jonesville for brunch.
We rolled out north bound on I-77 and leaned left onto Hwy21 N toward Sparta and the BRP. The map showed the BRP to be open from 21 north to 52 above Mt. Airy. WRONG.
The BRP in NC is a real mess. We got to check out a couple of miles.
Well heck, I went to go for the quick Christmas Day ride I do every year. Cranked up the bike and the low tire pressure light was on. I knew right away I had caught something in the rear tire since I had checked tire pressure last Sunday when it was in the 20's. Put it up on the jack and rotated the rear tire and sure enough, plumb in the middle of the tread, a shiny construction nail buried in the tire. Oh well, I have almost 12k miles on these tires, new set on Thursday as long as dealer has them in stock.

Generally, youre right Uncle Larry. But I have ridden in snow, ice, rain over the decades. The service manager at my harley dealer was quizzing me when I got my tires replaced yesterday. The conversation when like this:
SM: " I know you ride all year, how cold does it have to be for you to stop riding?'
Me: " Well, i couldnt ride a couple of years ago when it got below 15 degrees because the motor oil turned to sludge and the bike wouldnt turn over to start"
SM: " Crazy, ok do you ride in the snow?"
Me: "I prefer not to but I have been caught in a snow storm or two on my long distance rides"
Sm: "Crazy, how about rain? WIll you get out and ride when its raining?"
Me: " Last year, when I was coming back from Daytona, I rode in hard rain for 13 hours straight! If its a weekend ride and its raining, I'll probably pass but if I have to get somewhere, gear up and go."
He shook his head and laughed. I've never been someone who feels right when I have to park my bike for any length of time. So I brave the elements when I must but after close to 50 years of riding and a million plus miles on 2 wheels, i've learned a thing or two.
New tires, I was able to get out today. Did a 75 mile loop and caught a little sleet but it was all good. Specially when I had to reign in a C9 corvette that was a little too aggressive, lol.
