Hate to burst bubbles here but Winter doesn't hit until Dec 21st
The Meteorologists on TV say meteorologic winter is December-January, and February (Northern hemisphere)
But "too cold" is relative. in my 20s I lived in NJ, and rode motorcycle with a sheepskin lined jean jacket, when the ground was NOT covered with snow.
Now, at 74, I live in central NC, and I wear my Heated jacket from October through April, plugged in, sometime switched off, but always ready to crank up.
Weather improved and got out today for couple of hours. We had 50 mph gusts last couple of days with freezing weather. Sunday is looking great, in the mid 40’s. Will do a longer ride tomorrow, 250 miles or so.
It's only the 14th and this is probably already the most I've ever ridden in the month of December with a little over 2,000 miles so far. A big chunk of that was an Iron Butt ride last week, though. Looking ahead, weather is still looking mild here in central Indiana. I've already squeaked in over 50,000 miles for the year which crushes my old personal record. But I should be able to add some buffer miles to that.
I can't say enough about heated gear. It makes cold weather riding comfortable. Not just "tolerable". In general, great to see other riders finding the means to keep at it. I get cranky if the bike sits for a few days, haha.
50k miles is a great year of riding! As much as I ride, I’ve only done that once or twice in 50 years and I owned several bikes at the same time. Unfortunately for work, I’ve driven my fleet vehicles 50k or more many times over the years. Good thing I’m retiring soon!
