Moonshine Ride from this year (few weeks ago) is in the books. Great time with solid friends. Still some riding and leaf peeping time left, so my wife and I decided to do a little scouting for next year's ride. We're leaving in two days and headed east to Virginia....again. We've been in the state dozens of times and know it pretty well. Trying to determine a good 'hub' for a multi-day ride isn't necessarily easy, so we figured why not find a slightly different setting which gives us lots of options for roads, scenery, food, history, things to do, and most importantly...find a rental home to host everyone. Some online searching led us to select the Massanutten, McGaheysville and Elkton area for our base. We reserved a home on the north end of Massanutten Resort, just east of Harrisonburg. We have no interest in the actual resort and its entertainment, so the home is simply that; our home while we explore. Some possible options for this trip: Skyline Drive. Franklin, WV, Monterey, VA ride. See our friends at Stonewall HD. Visit a few wineries. Find about 3 good bbq joints. Visit an orchard and a couple farm markets. Hit a few breweries like Devil's Backbone. Just trying to get a good feel for whether this area would make for a great Moonshine '26 ride. Based on our previous knowledge of the area and some map searching, it looks promising.
Some of the weather looks a bit risky. We decided to trailer the bike to our base and then ride as wanted. We've got the entire week to do whatever we want. Who knows....? Maybe we'll pass you somewhere on the highway. Pics and updates to follow......
Youre going to be in my backyard, lol. Take 33W out of Elkton to 220N to 48W to 219N. Have lunch in Deep Creek Lake. Head back on 50E to 42S to 220S to 55W to 81S. It will be a full day ride through the mountains and some spectacular riding.

Thought I might hear from you, lol. Those are definitely all good roads we've traveled at one time or another. Hoping foliage is good while we're in the region.

After spending 4 days with me and NC friends I wasn't sure if you wanted to see us again. Seriously, we had a blast a few weeks ago and thanks again for organizing. We are in, and guessing Cosmic/CG will be in as well. Amy and I have a timeshare property in Massanutten that we may be able to utilize or maybe get a discount on a rental property. I think there will be more NC folks joining if space is available.
Amy and I rode up to Thousand Islands in 2023. On the way home we came down 220 through PA, MD, into WVa. Then over to 219 down through Mingo. Across 66 into Cass (looked like a cool old town, they got trains) then north on 92 and then 250 over to Staunton. Old town center looked interesting, but we needed to get home. Those were some curvy roads! Of course we stopped a Fish-N-Pig in Waynesboro for a big lunch after getting a workout through the mountains. Kojak volunteered to keep me and Bret out of trouble in Daytona, which will be a big job! I'm sure he won't mind leading us around his neck of the woods.
Easy now, keeping bikers out of trouble in spring bike week is not a desirable job if they WANT to get into trouble, lol. Yes, anytime you are in the Shenandoah valley, lmk know and I will take you for some great rides.

Stopped at Triple S HD in Morgantown, WV on the way. Heck of a nice dealership with huge interior space. Hard to not spend money in there, and my wife gave in to a nice cool weather top.
We're at Massanutten currently. Airbnb on the side of a mountain. Thankfully the driveway is relatively level. Walked outside yesterday morning and deer were feeding across the road. They paid me no attention and a big doe walked past me at about 5 steps. I could've frog-gigged her, but landing her would've been another thing. Temps were 35 so we delayed riding a while. Later we geared up and headed down 340 to Waynesboro. A bit of lunch at a place Rob told me about.
The temps were decidedly cool and and the sun eventually faded behind a steady overcast. We knew it would be chilly at higher elevation but we decided to run a bit of the Skyline. At the Rockfish Gap portal we got a free wave-thru and appreciated it. A couple shots....
Temps on top were typically in the 40s. Leaves were dropping and the road was actually pretty quiet. Due to our later start we dropped out and off at US 33 and headed back toward Elkton and Massanutten. Both of us were a bit chilled and it was good to get inside and warmed up.
I think we might end up riding over to Ruckersville and visiting our friends at Stonewall HD today.
