I'm planning on renting a Road Glide when I'm in Vegas in mid January. Any tips on some good half day to full - day trips? Also, since I'll be exploring the area in January, the trips need to 'co-operate' with the local weather so prolly can't take any trips into the mountains huh?
South is probably the safest direction to go (weather-wise)... The desert is nice, but heading over the hump (to Pahrump) could be icey. But then again ....
Ride over the Dam (always fun) towards Kingman, AZ
Now you have some choices:
1) Head into Oatman and out to Laughlin and back thru Searchlight
(to make it longer, at Searchlight head thru Nipton anc back to the 15 (n Jean you can take the frontage road to get off the 15)
2) Head to Lake Havasu (London Bridge) and come back via Laughlin.
3) Take the Golden Valley exit (hiway 68) and head into Bullhead City. Again, back thru Laughlin, etc.
Oatman and back would be a half day, the others would most likely be 3/4 day ...
I was out their in nov. Rented from eaglerider. They goodtrip maps bought one for 5 bucks. Did the dam run saw Hoover dam, Davis dam went through the desert and thur Laughlin. Did about 260 miles great day. Can't wait to go back. Winter sucks on the east coast.
Also try the North Shore road along Lake mead....enter either in Henderson or North Las Vegas and ride north to Overton or branch off to Valley of Fire State Park.
Also good 1/2 day trip take 93 south toward Searchlight about 3-4 miles out of Boulder City you will see a road off to the right that goes to Nelson. Great ride it dead ends at the river but you pass some great scenery plus there is a small shop, museum that has some great odd objects. It was also the place where they filmed the plane crash scene from Kevin Costner film 1000 days to Graceland. The people that operate the place are friendly and full of stories!!
