call ahead and make sure the entrance is open you are going to. Few years ago me and a bud went to the entrance by Cody and it was closed due to a fire. It was a loooong way to the open entrance

The entrances/exits at Cooke City and West Yellowstone are always open in the summer. Unless the fires are as bad as '88, they'll be open. They do have hours, though. The East Entrance (to Cody, WY) is the one that closes most often.
We were in Yellowstone last month. \\; When in Hayden Valley &\\; Fishing Bridge, keep your eyes open for mama grizzlies &\\; cubs. \\; We saw quite a few. \\; Have a great time!
I will be there Aug. 3rd - 5th, looks like I will be gone before anyone gets there. Thanks for all the information, I will put it to good use. Ride safe
Mammoth campground, just inside the North Gate has a couple of motorcycle only sites. One time, we got there late in the evening, the campground was full, Mark and I rode in and got to talking to the other bikers and they let us joined their group. We split the cost.
For those of you who ride this area, we plan to ride a loop from Cooke City on Chief Joseph, 120 up to Belfry, cut across 308 through Bearcreek to Red Lodge and back down to Cooke City.
Is this doable in the 4 hrs (plus stops) that google maps says ? Are these hwys subject to heavy traffic \\;this time ofyear especially ?
I may not have mentioned it in my e-mail....the Red Lodge to Cooke City traffic is light before 10am. Most folks coming to the Beartooth Hwy from the north are coming from Billings and/or I-90. They won't make it down there that early.
