Default Natchez Trace Parkway ride

My wife and I are planning a spring ride on the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville, Tn to Natchez, Ms, and then north on Rt 61 to Memphis, Tn. Will be leaving from northern Ohio and plan on taking about 7 days for the ride on my 08 Ultra. Has anyone recently made this ride and would you have any tips for me??

The "Trace" as we call it, is one of the most peaceful rides you will ever take. This highway was rated in the top 10 roads to take in the world in one of the well known motorcycle magazines. There are no 18 wheelers aloud on the Trace. You may travel for miles and miles without seeing another vehicle. There are many historical places to stop and see along the way and quite a few picnic areas. There are no buisnesses or gas stations on the trace, but there are many exits to pull off of for gas and food along the way. The only thing about the N.T. is that it has a 50MPH speed limit which is heavily enforced by federal park rangers. The roads are mostly shaded by overhanging trees and occasional wide open fields and pastors. Lots of wild life (watch for deer and wild turkeys). Once you have reached Natchez, you will find a town with much unknown history. It was once home to Jim Bowie. A lot of civil war history. You will have to visit the old Saloon "Under the Hill". It is a flavorfull tavern with lots of history. This is where the old paddle wheel boats unloaded their passengers and gamblers. I recomend doing some internet searches for anything that might suit your taste along the way. Hope this helps.

One of the most peaceful rides I've ever made. You can see portions of the original trace. Historical stops every few miles. Just watch out for Elvis crossing around Tupelo.

Thanks for the tips and advice about "The Trace". We are excited about the trip and can't wait till the weather breaks here in Ohio. We do plan to stay at least one night in Natchez and will be sure to visit the "Under the Hill" saloon. I also enjoy history, expecially the civil war era, so this will be a fun trip.

Thanks for the wonderful info!!

The "Trace" is a terrific ride. I love the slower more at ease pace of routes like this and the BlueRidge Parkway!
As you enter the "Trace" in Nashville you should stop and eat at the "Loveless Cafe". Super Food with really nice people and lots of history. Check out www.lovelesscafe.com.
They had some of the best Biscuits I have ever eatin'.
Did the same trip in 08' ,only in the opposite direction, and loved it!

ENJOY!

I have done the ride two times north to south, as the others say VERY NICE RELAXING RIDE. But don't get in a hurry. Some of the others riding with me one time got bored and was ready to get off after a few hours, but I enjoyed it. No billboards, no trucks, no stop lights, just peaceful riding with great scenery. The second trip I went alone.

At the north end eat at Loveless Cafe,(this is right at the north end within a half mile) its an old cafe and motel from the 40's good food, nice stop. The motel is closed and now has gift shops or something.

I stayed at Tupelo the first night and Natchez the second night. I ate at a small joint on top of the hill above the casino called Fat Mama Tamales, http://www.fatmamastamales.com/ . The HD dealer in Jackson said they ride down on day rides and eat there. Good Food.

For b&b try this web site.

Stop at the welcome center at the park and they have a nice map with all gas stops and small towns close to the trace.

+1 on Loveless Cafe, its a must stop, but be hungry.

Great ride so long as you don't get in a hurry. The law is serious about that 50 mph speed limit...and they don't mean 60.
Enjoy...!!!

We are planning to spend a night around Nashville, so we will be sure and stop in at the LoveLess Cafe. Several others have recommended it as well. Thanks for the riding tips. It sure helps when planning a trip.

Happy trails!
