Default Trip from Chicago to Glacier

Hi all, I am planning a trip from Chicago to Glacier NP and was going to go north to Rt2 and take that west to Glacier. A friend said that was a boring ride and that I would be better off taking a different route, so... I need opinions on a scenic route while avoiding the super slab. I am about the ride not the destination so slower back roads are prefered to the big highway. You just don't meet interesting people when traveling on an interstate. I am planning on taking Rt14 home so I would like to avoid that on the way out. Opinions????

Thanks in advance

You didn't say how much time you have but I would consider doing some super slab to get to western South Dakota ( Black Hills are fantastic) then head up to Yellowstone via Beartooth pass then on to Glacier.

I have gone to Glacier 3 times. Time is a factor. If you took the Interstate back and running tight on days off. It might be easier to judge driving time on the return trip.

I have taken the trip from Lacrosse,WI to Glacier. You can write me here or direct for anymore questions.

The one thing I enjoyed about Hwy 2. A you are heading west you see nothing but "Big Sky" for a very long time. The a bump out in the distance appears. It gets bigger and bigger until you are awe struck with beautiful Glacier just ahead!

It's my favorite place to ride too.

Thanks everyone, I think I will take Rt2 east to west and then come back on Rt12 west to east. Should be a great 10 days!

I took 2 from Maine over through Vermont and New Hampshire. It was a nice scenic ride through the forests and mountains.

If you ever decide to head East that is.
