if you have tlme ride over to death valley and work your way up to oregon & ride around crater lake if your from the coast ride up to port angeles and take the ferry over to the inland nice ride winds around the water can be slow thought
We live in Alberta, and plan on doing the same thing. We want to go to the Grand Canyon via the west coast, then make our way north from there back to Alberta. Last year we went to the east coast through Canada, then made our way back through the USA. The trip was great!!! I'll watch this thread also to see what people have to say, there are always good tips on what to see from others in the forum. Have a good ride!!!
I went up the coast from Frisco last summer. The big tree forest is awesome. Not sure if your planning to go by Mt Rainier or St Helens but most of the roads were closed.

Any time you ride the coast you are subject to getting caught in the marine layer. I would only suggest that you be open to options and kindof let yourself detour if you run into weather you don't like. Any part of the coast is beautiful. There are a couple of shots here from Oregon (July 2008)
and California (August 2005)
Crater Lake is a must-see IMHO
One thought would be to cut across Cali around Eureka through Redding and hit Lake Tahoe area, then you could head SE and across Death Valley on your way to Grand Canyon...
