I'm taking a trip down to Wytheville VA area this memorial day weekend. Anyone know the area and have some good rides to recommend? I'm thinking I'll check out the Blue Ridge Pkwy when I'm there.
I live near there.....You can ride US 21 from Wytheville to 18 to the Stations Inn, a motorcycle resort/hangout in Laurel Springs, NC. It is a nice ride thru the mountains and part of the Jefferson National Forest. Stations Inn is 100 yards off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The ride from Wytheville to Stations Inn is only about 50 miles.
I think you can take 221e to hwy 8...Hwy 52 north of NC line is nice also....We are riding it next week. Take Hwy 8 up to Riner VA there is a nice little restaurant Brush Creek Buffallo they raise, sell and cook the buffalo....If you have never had Buffallo it's worth trying the Burgers....It tastes great...

Thanks for the suggestions - they sound like great rides. My 13 year old daughter and I will be 2-up from Frederick, MD, and we're doing this to warm up for a planned 16 day 5500 mile trip later this summer to the west This short trip will help us find out if we're really into doing the long one, and whether we're really ready. Otherwise we might just take a cage
If you are going to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway, you might also wish to check out the Skyland Drive as well. Great scenery, good food, and wildlife at the roadside.
+1 on the BRP. Visit Mabry's Mill which is on the BRP and not far from Wythville. Its a working grist mill. If you like barbeque check out Smokey's in Wythville. Some of the best IMHO.
