Default Anyone From The Florida Panhandle Area?

My wife and I are from the Tulsa, OK area and are planning a road trip down to the Pensacola / Gulf Breeze / Destin area.

Any advice on things to see and do and maybe any highways or towns to avoid?

We are planning on sitting on the beach for two days and then rolling back through New Orleans with a stop over at Jimmy Buffet's sister's bar in Gulf Shores (I think it is).

Thanks!

Nice area. Watch out for some of the very Senior Citizens.
You are going to love the sand.
The restaurant is Lulu's. We always enjoy the food and entertainment.
If you have to wait an hour or two for a table, try one of the tiki huts for drinks and snacks.
Good luck. Ride safe.

From Destin, ride a little further east to Seaside, FL (about 25 miles) Interesting planned community. Parts of the movie Truman Show were filmed there. Check out the Modica Market and Bud and Alley's Restaurant (one of Florida's best).

Pensacola has the National Naval Air Museum
The Flora-Bama Lounge, called the "Last American Road House" on Perdido Key Drive
and a historic district with lots of artsy shopping

Mobile has the USS Alabama, a WWII era South Dakota class battleship. The park also has a diesel sub, B-52, SR71, etc.

And finally, while in Destin, you gotta grab a boat, canoe, float whatever and head out to "Crab Island".
Basically a drinking party on the sand bar north of the bridge.
Water is warm and very shallow, so you can't fall off the bar stool.

Too drunk to stand, getting "toed" back to the boat.

Ive lived here for nearly thirty years. IMO stay in Destin. however Gulfshores isnt bad either. The traffic is terrible in Pcola. Must see the Naval aviation musem, I believe its still free, while there check out the runway Blue angels may be in town. On every saturday morning a group always meets up for breakfast at the Wilcox exit on I -10 this twenty miles from Pcola, a great bunch of guys. They meet at 0745 at the gas station / restaurant you will see the bikes. If you stop at the shell station at exit five in Pcola they leave at 7am sharp for the ride over. John and Glenda are normally the leader of the ride. Have a safe trip.Duane5157

I'm planning a similar trip. I'll be starting at Keaton Beach, FL and riding Hwy 98 to Destin, FL

I stayed at the Ramada Resort in Destin a few years ago. It was a very nice place. This year I think I am going to stay at the Holiday Inn Resort (credit card points).

As for food, if you like burgers check out McGuires on Hwy 98.
Also Helen Back has great pizza and good bands. Lots of bikes hang out there.

Aside from that there are a ton of things to do...

Seaside isnt quite 25 miles from Destin .. Its on County Road 30 which runs into US 98 east of Destin , and horseshoes along the beach and comes back out on US98 just shy of of Panama City

The entire CR 30 is a nice ride along the beach .. If ya wanna go straight to Seaside , stay on US98 , and turn onto the first county road to the right after you pass the US331 intersection .. It'll dead end into CR 30 , hang a right and you're at Seaside .. It's a ritzy kinda place ..

Obey the speed limits along the beach .. Expect traffic to be very heavy on US98 all the way across ..

How is it during the week? I plan to do the trip in Mid August. I know most schools start about that time down there.

How long do you think it will take to go from Keaton Beach to Destin via Hwy 98?
