Default Tank bag on Ultra?

Wondering if I should get a tank bag for my '07 Ultra, for a cross country trip this summer. Don't have the $$$ for a Zumo yet, and it would be good for holding the maps and a few other items. Anyone used tank bags on their Electra-Glide? I see that eGlideGoodies has'em and they are magnetic. Do they really stay on? Do they NOT scratch? Any advice appreciated.

Get one! They're incredibly handy. I don't use a GPS and the map window alone is worth it.

Marsee has one with a 'tunnel' that fits Harleys. Their customer service sucks (no spare parts).

I have ordered a Motofizz Map Bag 1 from Aerostich. It looks like it will fit the Ultra console. I also got the sheets of Paint Guard from Aerostich too. I thought I had read where the Marsee one with the "tunnel" will not fit the Ultra console. If anyone does have it and it fits, let us know.

I was wondering about tank bags as well, but probably for a different reason. I want something I can stick my Nikon D90 (DSLR) into for quick access when I'm on the back roads. In the past I've used a little digital camera but the DSLR my picture quality is so much better. I'd like something I can put on the tank/console and have quick open and shoot access.

Anyway, while I've never used a tank bag I do ride regularly with a fellow who has used a tank bag for the last 5 years we've ridden together. To my knowledge has never had a problem with it staying on, but I think it also straps on. He uses is on a Heriage ('04 or '05 model) and I'm pretty sure he uses something under it as well. I guess I'll need to pay closer attention next time we ride.

If you're interested, Realhog.com has the Kury Grancruise bag on sale for under $90.

I also looked at Pro1Powersports and they have a few bags on sale as well. One that caught my eye was the Nelson Rigg SSC-130 Strap Mount. It has a strap system that goes in the front and rear of the tank, but I don't know how well it will fit on the center console for the HD. The price is right ($65 at Pro1, $82 MSRP), and I'm going to have to see if I can find one.

The Dowco Rally Pak looks like an option as well, and it's only $33 at Pro1.

I have one of the smaller Dakota bags from eglidegoodies. I've been very happy with it. use one side pocket for garage door opener. The other side holds cell phone. small "map pocket" holds handheld GPS (Garmin eTrex Vista Hcx) and camera (Nikon Coolpix), and the larger full length pocket holds maps, papers, toll $$, earplugs, etc.

The back is a very soft leather, and it is held on with strong magnets on the side "wings". The magnets are totally encased in the leather. Doesn't move even at 90mph.

I bought a Dowco Rally Pack tank bag at the Iron Pony in Westerville, Ohio, www.ironpony.com for my 07 Heritage just before a 10 day trip to the Smoky Mountains and Deals Gap in May. It was the best $49.95 I've spent.

Magnetic mounts hold it securely in place and no problems with scratching since the bottom is padded. Also has a map pocket and a built in nylon rain cover. Here are a few pics showing it on the bike.

I retract my opinion on the Dakota bag. Soft leather or not, 2 weeks on the bike and the clearcoat is scratched. Time to get a vest/jacket with more pockets. I should have known.

P.S. Even if the bag and tank are perfectly clean, the first time you ride through a dust devil, the magnets will catch all kinds of crap that will be ground into your tank by the wind.

+1 on the Dowco Rally Bag. I have the strap-mount type with the clear map window and it is really handy. I keep my lightweight nylon bike cover in it so that I can get to it quickly and cover the bike from sun/rain, etc. whenever I stop. '06 SG, sits right on top of the console. No scratches yet.

I have the SBW Concepts Scout XL bag on my Ultra. It fits great and is expandable if you need more room. The price is great also, $55 with free shipping. http://www.sbwconcepts.com/products.html

Looks good but their website shows an Ultra tank/console like mine and says the regular Scout will fit it. So I'm wondering if I should get the Scout or the Scout XL? Is your console different on your '03? Or, if not, does the XL actually fit better in your opinion?
