Hwy 80

The wife and I will be traveling to San Fransisco via Hwy 80 at the end of July, what can I expect for heat and weather between Salt Lake City and Nevada?

You can expect a whole lot of nothing. Pretty desolete out there. Been up and down I-80 more than I would like to remember. The towns are not to far apart. Just hot and ugly. Weather is up in the air. Usually pretty warm I would guess mid 80's to mid 90's.. Lived in Elko for 10 years and Nevada for 15 or so.

heard there was quite a bit of construction, especially around Truckee. i'm going around that way in a week or so, but am taking the picturesque route thru Yosemite.

I was just through there last week. We did a 7000 km trip from edmonton - vancouver - san fran - salt lake - edmonton. Due to time we had to ride the I80, if there was more time, we would have gone south to las vegas and then went to slc from the south. The best part of the I80 is the speed limit is 75. We saw no law enforcement people and our average speed was 85+. Nothing really to see for and entire 10 hour day of riding. Lots of road construction.
