No it's not near as scenic. In fact the wife and I got bored after about 2 hours riding it south out of Nashville last summer. That's all we planned to be on it before heading east to Chattanooga and then on to NC. That's supposed to be the most scenic part of it. Speed limit is 50 I believe. If your trying to decide between the two go BRP.
It's nothing like the BRP.. it has it's moments, it's also hot during the summer months, especially July, August..Speed limit is enforced with speed traps .. My bro-in-law was caught with the radar imbedded in a hay bale on a truck parked on the side of the road.. I don't like the Trace.. would spend more time somewhere else..
BORING. If you decide to ride it, jump off at Hwy. 100 and have Breakfast at the Loveless Cafe. I got stopped for 66 MPH but the cop let me go. He said that he rode too and that I just needed to slow down. I wouldn't go out of my way to ride on it.
Riding the Trace from point a to point b can be boring. The wife and I did the Trace from Natchez to Nashville took us two days we stopped at many of the sights as possible. We walked the sunken trace, visited Merrweather Lewis's tomb and picked up some slag metal from a 1900 steel mill. To us it was a great ride and oh yes stop at the Loveless.
I ride parts of the Trace every couple of weeks......it's ok.......a bit boring at the 50 speed limit....but interesting if you take time to stop and read the history.
I also ride the Trace quite often since I live about 5 miles from it here in central Mississippi. Although it is not as scenic as the BRP(Mississippi is not in the mountains) It is a very nice and historic ride if you take the time to stop at some of the marked areas. As far as being hot in the summer.....well it is the deep south, but it is a very shaded road and not nearly as hot as some other roads in the area. The speed limit is 50mph but you can generally get away with a steady 55 except when the speed limit changes for a few miles in the Ridgeland,ms area to 45.
