I'm an avid fisher-woman. My fishin' has suffered tremendously though because of my latest passion, my Harley! I have fished a lot in CO...Deckers, 11-mile canyon, Cheesman Canyon, South Park, Roaring Fork, Frying Pan, S Platte, Arkansas River, etc....around Breckenridge, Colo Springs and Aspen as my folks had a place in either Breck or C.S. for years. Last 5 years, I've mainly fished around Santa Fe NM since I now have a (small) place there. The Pecos was very good to me year before last. I don't think I fished once last year...sure did ride a lot though!
I'm nuts about fly-fishing. I always say riding and fly fishing are similar...relaxing as all get-out while at the same time, they're both intense and demand your total concentration. You gotta focus on what you're doing, making it next to impossible to think of anything other than what you're doing at that moment. Something can be on my mind and after a ride or a day of fishing, I realize my mind was almost blank...it's amazing how relaxing that can be.
My hobbies/obsessions aren't conducive to living in Dallas TX that's for sure!
+1 to that. Time seemingly stops when the fish start biting!
Not sure where Elgin is located, but I'm located in NW AR. and not to far from Roaring River and the White River (just below the Beaver Lake dam). Good times fishing either of those. I've been fishing RR more often cause I got a hole in my waders and to lazy to fix it and my boots came apart and too cheap to replace them. I love it so much I even tie my own flies, which is cool catching fish on flies you tie yourself. Also, Branson, Mo. has great fly fishing.
tlever, I'm an hour southwest of Oklahoma City on I44, fished branson once, I've always wanted to try the white river but just never made it up there, one of those places where you need to know somebody or use a guide. I never wear waders in the summer, just wading boots. I like to get over to Beavers Bend in eastern Okla. during the winter and fish it, to hot an muggy in the summer to camp over there for me unless you got a trailer or rent a cabin. Thats why I like going to Colorado in the summer, like the cooler weather and the scenery is awesome. Spent a week in Montana up by Kalipspell last summer fishing some of the rivers in the area, that was great to. Got me fired up to do some fishing, may have to go hit a creek this afternoon for some panfish and smallies.
just got back from hayward wisconsin this 4 of july weekend the bass were crushing poppers on the old fly rod caught a five pounder and a three and a half pounder took me about 25 minutes to land the big one man you talk about a fight on a light line set up, fun fun fun diring the whole weekend i caught about 80 fish all together bass, crappie.blu gills and of course a few walleye.
I strap the fly-rod, waders and vest on my Dyna all the time and fish some lakes across the Montana/North Dakota border or take a long weekend and head over to Bozeman to fish the great rivers there. Love combining two of my passions for some needed R&R!
