Default Sturgis FNG

Hey all,
I'm looking for any advice you would give to a Sturgis first timer. I have my trip laid out. Packing list made up. I'm really looking for those little gems of wisdom about the event itself. I'm sure you've seen someone do something dumb and said "damn you should've known better." I would like to get the most out of my trip without stepping on someones toes and getting stabbed. LOL. I'm sure I'll get a couple smart asses here but it wouldn't be a biker forum without em'. Thanks ya'll.

A good tip, always roll your clothes, dont fold them, they pack better, bring a bunch of 1 gallon zip lock bags to put wet things in.

Not knowing what you like and what you don't it's really hard to say. But there is something for everyone. If you are not looking for trouble, it's likely not to find you and if you are, well it can be there. The best advice I can give is to plan each day before going and stick to your plans...rain or shine...and it will rain at some point. There is so much to see and do, all within a few hundred mile radius. I've gone for a few years...with my wife, believe it or not...and we have a blast each time.

Go to the Knuckle one afternoon and watch the fights, it's a great time. But get there early to get a good seat.

My advise is to go riding early in the morning if you want to enjoy the popular roads. By noon the roads are packed with bikes, get up early one day (8am works for me) and do the Iron Mt/ Needles Hwy/ Custer SP loop, you'll thank me for this. Just watch out for the critters as they are moving around alot that time of day.

The Crue is playing at the Chip on Wednesday night....that's the only MUST do this year ....

like a previous post said, the rides are better in the morning. They are awesome no matter what, but the less traffic makes them better. Nemo road is one of my faves in later afternoon though....always seems quiet with little traffic for some reason.

Police have a zero tolerance policy. While in Sturgis come to a complete stop and put both feet down. No racing, no burnouts, use turn signals, etc.. In general, the police will leave you alone unless you break some little law. Once they stop you, they will run your name and look for infractions. Women showing breasts (without pasties) will get fined.

When going through the twisties, keep to the middle/right of your own lane - there are always clowns coming at you who can't stay within their own lane.
