We trailered up to Ishpeming, MI and spent two days touring some of the places we snowmobile through in the winter. Every road is great. We took in Bond Falls, the Root Cellar on Lake Gogebic, Mariners and Brockway Mountain in Copper Harbor and the Lake Superior coastline to Munising. It was about 550 miles of great riding. The picture shows the end of route 41; turn around and its only 1990 miles to Miami.
Limey, I may have run into you at a gas station in Sidnaw on the trip you mentioned. Good to run into you again.
I'm not sure what the linking rules are on this site but there is another site devoted to recommended motorcycle routes and rides in the UP. A lot of the more scenic ones follow major snowmobile trails. The site even offers a discount card honored at many restaurants, bars and motels.
The roads are beautiful offering tree canopies and panoramic views of Lake Superior. Here are some more pictures of Bond Falls in Paulding and Brockway mountain in Copper Harbor.

I dig Copper Harbor area. The lakeshore road is fantastic up there.
Hope youcaught M110 (Trail of Trees i think its called, just south west of the Bridge)
Jealous? ha ha ha... we always think the grass is greener ~~~> on the other side eh.
For the most part, "most" of Michigan riding is mundain unless on a lakeshore someplace. And even then, it's mostly flat in comparison to the Carolinas and your nearby mountains.
I'ld rather be in your shoes closer to all those great roads and trip up here now and then than visa versa.
Count your blessings eh! ;o)
I didn't get that far east. As far as the UP being mundane, I guess its a matter of perspective. I have been going up there snowmobiling for about 40 years and I wanted to see it in the summer by bike. I was not disappointed. Also, it is so far north that it doesn't get dark until about 10:30 PM so more time for riding.

How did your brakes handle coming down Brockaway Mountain into Copper Harbor ?

That's a point well taken. The road is quite steep and is riddled with potholes. It's hard to take in the scenery while you are dodging them and feathering the brakes. Downshift and let that pig scream.
