Default Mountain View Arkansas

Looking for some ride suggestions! Spending three nights in Mountain View with fellow riders. Interested in some thoughts on day rides....200 to 300 miles?...out of Mountain View and return each day! Also any places we should check out on these journeys...restaurants, ice cream shops, tourist attractions, etc.!

Thanks in Advance!

1. Push Mountain - AR 341 between Mountain View and Mountain Home AR.
2. Anywhere near Jasper Ar - Hwy 123, Boxley Valley
3. Just about any route to Eureka Springs ar
4. I recommend you pass on the Pig trail - the roads has washed out due to the flooding the last few weeks.

Others will have lots of other routes and stops soon.

Enjoy my back yard.

hwy 14. Back over toward Big Flat, Harriet, Fifty-six. Do Blanchard Springs. If not one of the caves, the spring and trail/creeks at the bottom. hwy 87 has some views

All the little roads between Leslie, Marshall, Timbo etc are great rides, up and over hills down through valleys etc.

Maybe a zag over to Gilbert on a weekday...full of canoe renters on weekends. Great restaurant down there.

Rush is an abandoned mining area worth a visit but the last few miles are unpaved.

I like 27 west out of Marshall... some great creek views and waterfalls when it is wet. Little old town of Snowball makes a good loop back out to 65

Maybe hwy 9, good curves, over toward Melbourne then back over to Calico rock which has some shops and a "ghost town" district good for a stretch.

These are all in the immediate area. Lot of great spots on up and into MO... Mo is a helmet state I think. A ferry crosses the lake of in one spot north and a bit west of Mt Home. arkansas.com has some good roads listed

hwy 9 down to Shirley then either to Clinton or over toward Greer's Ferry is great road.. My backyard run. You can loop 92 back over to hwy 65 on the south side of the lake.

If you get down into the Ouachitas, Notice that north south across them is great, 7 or 9, but east west kinda follows the valleys. Hot Springs and Petit Jean are good down there.

search up "arkansas bucket list" thread. It was full of good stuff

Default I like the Southwestern roads better than the Northeast

I think the roads south and west and of Jasper are the best part of the riding. Only the south 12 miles of Push Mountain (AR 341) were in the woods. It was a wider road than 123 and 21. I did see at least 2 dozen deer, i rode it at dusk 2 weeks ago. 7 and 16 have a lot more traffic, but 7 has the most scenic overlooks with parking areas to stop.

I have been riding the roads mentioned in the Ozarks bucket list thread this spring. I have a gap between Flippin and Russellville to fill in today.

The only mistake on the map is the road north of Catalpa (a few miles east of Oark) Google doesn't recognise my route as a road. Everything else was nice riding.

All great suggestions. The Pig Trail is okay, but there's so much more to see that I wouldn't go out of my way especially considering the issues.

Rush is a cool visit, but one I saved for the car. Not the greatest riding there.

Kokemill - if you are able, fill that missing gap on 160 east of Branson - it's a great ride. Hwy 90 east of Noel is a local favorite - run that to Roaring River State Park and south into the back door of Eureka Springs. I'm super-envious of you right now! You put down some great rides.

PS - there's some great rides south of 40 too. I.e Talimena Skyway among others.

This July we will be going to AR from Central IL. Plan to stop first day in Mountain Home. 2nd day planned to run route 7 down to Hot Springs. 3rd day was going to route up to Eureka Springs going on Pig Trail then over to Oark. Debated the route from Clarksville up 103 to Oark. Would be about 5-6 hrs riding each day not counting stops. Only have 4 days Fri-Mon so would have to run back home Monday.

Default Arkansas Suggestions

Small water crossing on way to Haw Falls concrete base underwater.

Haw Falls the nearby campground is all shade cover. Water break area.

Some photos from Hwy 123 North Bound

Just returned from Arkansas Saturday after spending a week of riding. I have to recommend Hwy 123 North out of Hagerville. Got a tip from a native to look for Haw Creek Falls turn off. Gravel for 1/2 mile was hard packed small water crossing with concrete base under the water then campground with easy foot access to the falls was worth the rest stop. Road was great headed north bound only 5 or 6 cages south bound none north bound aprox. 20 to 40 other bikes on the road. Several good roads to connect to by using short portion of Hwy 7, then back North and west. Will look at maps tonight and send suggestions and if I can figure out how upload some photos.

Haw creek falls is a great spot. I have hesitated to mention it on these forums because of that water crossing. I have never biked over it. More excellent hikes in that vicinity.

Ok added some images looked at the map got on Hwy 123 at Hagerville went north to Hwy 7 then north to Hwy 123 again to Hwy 374 just north of Mr. Judea took 374 into Jasper then Hwy 103 north to Osage. Then the boring 412 to Hwy 62 for a quick trip back to Eureka Springs. You could go east on either 62 or 65 for a route back toward Mountain View. Butler Maps shows Hwy's 123, 74, and 103 as Yellow degree of difficulty. Hwy 7 is Red and 412 is Orange. Hope this helps.

Sylamore Creek Scenic Hwy is nice. Swim in warm water at Sylamore Creek, or cold water in the White River. City Rock Bluff is a very nice view, but be careful. No rails. If you like to climb, there are pitons already set in the cliff, bring a rope and saddle and descend to the White. If you hike, apply DEET Liberally!! I got back to the bike with over 500 chiggers and seed ticks! Actually used dog flea and tick spray to get rid of them, in spite of the warnings on the can " Not for use on humans". Believe me I was desperate! Also watch for pit vipers (Rattlesnakes, Cottonmouths, and Copperheads). I think Arkansas is home to every varmint known to man.

Point 11: Turn For City Rock Bluff View Point, on Culp Rd. aka CR 53 2.1 mi. between 10 & 11
Caution! DO NOT LET KIDS RUN AHEAD! There is no safety railing at the cliff. About 2 miles from the bridge look on your right for the New Hope Christian Church and turn right onto the dirt road. This road can be dusty! Stand high above White River at City Rock for a great view. A good starting point for Back Road adventures too. A small stone-ringed parking lot with a rusty old sign saying nothing is where you park. To find the view just walk forward from the parking lot about 80 yards. Across the road from this parking lot is where you can walk a large rock glade. When done go back to Hwy 5 the way you came, start our Caroline Gap Tour from here, or run the back roads too.
