Nice Overnight Fall Peak Color Trip
Man, I love to camp around the peak of fall color and I just couldn’t pass up the weekend that I knew it was hitting…….nice and crisp. Perfect camping weather if you ask me. There was some cool fog off the lake in the morning……
Not a bad little campsite – Ranger only charged me $14 for a tent….usually a $20 site with the electricity for your camper. Lots of tables and water…..no tent pad and it was pretty rocky, but the Thermorest pad did it’s thing.

Most of the general woods were’t super colorful, but there were individual trees that were bursting with color…..Ranger said to take Hwy 59 north and I think he gave me some good info……

I ended up getting so close to Fayetteville that I plugged it in the GPS and headed that way to see it. Never been. The whole town was lit up with color….. worth the trip up. Got to stop in Hog Braus or whatever that I have seen as a sponsor of the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ……had a nice pumpkin ale and I was on my way down toward Alma as instructed by the bartender as some good scenery……… doubled back up to Devil’s Den state park – which was at capacity in contrast to the little Oklahoma state park that I stayed at. Hwy 540 south was nothing to sneeze at

Dropped back by Checotah to snag a pic next to the home of Carrie Underwood sign…..my original camp wasn’t an hour from there……

For as little planning that went into it….. I had a great time! About 550 miles in little over 24 hours…..broke that new tire in right!
