I really enjoy the company at dinner and in the evenings.

Most I go is 1 or 2 nights and then I start missing the OL.

hi, all I think about 1300 miles over 3 days was my longest solo trip. Loved every minute.

I did 1600 miles in 6 days, and two of those were just hanging around at a rally. A good Navy buddy that lives in Seattle did a 6 week tour of the USA, over 8000 miles..

He managed to stop by my place for a couple days on his way to Miami.

Southern California to Northern Idaho to visit friends. Eight nights and nine days. About 3200 miles all together. This was a couple of years ago and I took the trip on a sport bike. I can't wait to try this next summer on my Road King.

+1 on that especially if you have a rider left at home. I do these at least once a year and this past year I rode the gulf to see the tar *****, I think that was around 2k miles.

Lots of good responses and if after reading all the responses you arent sure not sure one more response is gonna change your mind but DO IT! Its a great refreshing pleasure that your body and soul will appreciate. Like one of the posters said, you will feel part of something larger....

I envy those of you who have these great stories to tell...wish I had the ***** to do take a solo trip myself and I mean this both literally and figuratively as god gave me a playgina!

To the OP...if I were you, I'd get out there and DO IT! If you get out on the road and find you don't like the solitude, or whatever...you can always turn around and go home...no harm no foul...just a lesson learned. My guess is though, you'll find something out about yourself that can draw on the rest of your life. We only live once...like the country song says..."live like you were dyin".

As far as myself...I've done plenty of really cool things. I'm a fairly cautious person by nature, which is probably why most anyone that knows me is shocked to know how much I LOVE riding and have taken to it like a duck to water. Almost w/o exception, when I've stuck my neck out and gotten out of my comfort zone to try something new/"sceery", I usually end up loving it. I've been lucky enough to have some fantastic bike trips under my belt in a short amount of time (with others), but I have yet to fly solo for anything longer than 4 hours at a pop. I'd love to do it, but at this point, it's not in the cards. I know there are chicks who have taken solo road trips...and even one who recently set some sort of record covering all 50 states...but I have this uber-nervous mom and a plethora of well-meaning family and friends that keep me from doing a solo trip. (Think of your own wives/daughters before you deride me for not just doing it). I feel some sort of obligation to not freaking them out. Hell, my mom doesn't even like me riding by myself to my MSF Teaching gigs a couple hours away! Anyway...point is...you're a man...you have the time and the inclination...I say DO IT!!!! Then, come back here and give us a report!

Oh...before I go...you might figure anywhere between 300 and 600 miles/day depending on your riding style. Heading west from Frisco will be b-o-r-i-n-g as you know...for a number of miles and into the setting sun. You will want to and will be able to haul buns and will probably easily cover 600 miles at a pop. Once the terrain gets more scenic, twisty and/or mountainous...your mileage will probably drop. Of course...there could be rain, flats, etc. An extra day or 2 at the end "just in case" wouldn't hurt. I've always used those extra days to slow down and "smell the roses" myself because slowing down and riding about 300 miles/day allows for some time to actually do some sight-seeing and allows you to really enjoy the trip.

As far as people...you'll be on a bike...specifically a Harley...unless you look & act like an axe-murder you will have NO trouble meeting plenty of nice folks willing to talk with you along the way. Not sure how it is for you guys, but let me tell you...2 chicks riding their own...touring w/o guys...we figured a minimum 1 hour/day was/is spent talking with strangers at gas startions/restaurants, etc. I would assume it's much the same for you guys.

Good luck to ya!

Back in 2005 was my first long solo tour: SLC to South Carolina. Up the coast to Toronto. Around Lake Ontario and back into US. Hwy 2 across midwest. North into Alberta to Lake Louise and Icefield Parkway to the Cut-Off back to Red Deer. South back to SLC. It was about 9400 miles over 32 days. Talk about baptism by fire!

That trip got me hooked on touring. I've been all over the US and Canada over the last 5 years and still can't get enough.

Just go. I'll bet you a beer that you love every minute of it.

I've done RI to Laconia NH a few times, not really a long ride by any means, but it was still fun. Have done a couple of TX to OK runs here and there. Would really love to hit Sturgis next summer. Also looking to do a TX to FL, then up the East Coast loop around.

For you guys that camp, are you finding the camp sites ahead of time or just winging it?

What does everyone average on there trips?
I've done a good handful of solo rides. Probably the most memorable was summer of '09 when I took 30 days and covered 10,100 miles, touched 23 states and loved every minute. That 30 day period was broken up with some extended stays, like a week in Nashville with a buddy doing day rides of maybe 200 miles max, even one day where I didn't even ride the bike.

I did some serious pushes some of those days, just short of 1,000 miles and some more liesurely. The real kicker is I did it all with no windshield on. I won't make THAT mistake again. I can sure tell I'm not 25 any more!!!
