Default Gettin' "around" Chicago?

Anyone have a route around Chicago into Indiana without taking the Skyway or Tollway, please? I went LSD to 12/20 and that was a nightmare. Also didn't like going through Gary. Thank you

It would help if you stated where you are leaving from and what part of In. you were headed to.

I live close to Lake Bluff (Gurnee) and I usually take 294 south to 80 east over to 65 south when I go in that direction. 294 is still a tollway but I think it's better than going through the city.

I do believe that is the best route. Along with Ipass, it would be hard to beat. No need to even slow down for toll booths if you have Ipass.

Just fold your plate in! But seriously I'll be heading south to Chicago next month to visit a bud for a few days and want to avoid as many tolls as possible.

You are in for a rough ride, if you go without the tolls.
