Default Advice from Canadian members

I try and do a trip in the US each year, and this year we are having an awesome time in Colorado. So, over sone beers now we are discussing what to do next year and I am very keen on spending some time in Canada.

First question is: is the first week in September too late and risky weather wise.

2nd question : we would typically spend about 10 days on such a trip, where would be the best base to start out from?

Warm. Head west. The foothills are unreal and the mountains are paradise

What part of Canada?? How many beers were "some" Seriously you could do some great riding out in BC in Sept. It has been real nice and warm. There is a lot of riding out here. Alberta too. Other riders further east might chime in.
Come on out and enjoy.

From a position of total ignorance at this stage, we are guessing flying in to Calgary and then riding around Banff area. I would stress, we have not even studied a map yet.

This is very much a blank sheet at this stage, but excited by the responses received already, which imply that in principle this is feasible

I'd go to um.... uh..... heck..... just ride man.

On a serious note, even though I'm in Ontario, the western mountains is a must see for sure

I'd suggest Nova Scotia- the rugged sea coast--- Newfoundland- gorgeous the most Wonderful People ( check the story of Gander and 9/11). Digby N.S. has been doing a rally Labour Day weekend the past few years- might be a good jumping off point

The Mountains of B.C/ Alberta are also great, but you'd be done in a couple of days.
Tell the truth- Sturgis, Cody, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole...up through Montana - Glacier Park... then into Alberta and West through Crows Nest into BC... then up thru Radium Hot Springs to Banff...up to Jasper, then maybe continue to Vancouver then to Victoria and the Island-- ferry to Washington down to the Oregon coast that'd be a busy 10 days

( the CDN Prairies cover Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta---- wheat fields, flat and not much variety from hour to hour--- )

september, still nice compared to UK- so warmer and less wet than you may be used to.

You are in CO.
if you are thinking about 4 corners i know some nice riding up that way including Monument Valley, Mexican Hat, Natural Bridges. lemme know if you need some routes.

( CDN living in AZ, I've driven coast to coast in Canada over 50 times, seen it, done it. Travel for a living)

pt 2.) apologies to Prairie People, but having seen the rest of the World ( and being born in Red Deer...) 20 hours riding in the Prairies does not offer much variety after hour 2.

I gotta bike from Redline a few years ago and did a big 400 mile loop to PA and back, it was great and I went for as much variety as Sask. offers geographically.
Part of the process was to audition a Road Glide, Nick loaned me his SE Road Glide, it were fun.
