camera for trips
We would like one with a good zoom lens for the
times that we are not on the bike but it has to be fast
when traveling 65 mph as the wife takes pic as we go down the
road. It needs to be one of the compact zooms we do not have
alot of space for a big camera. I have read up on some like the
canon sx230 hs Nikon s9100 s8200 sony cameras.
Thanks Chuck
It takes good shots as we cruise along doing 65mph or better. I use a 4Gb card and we have not used all of it yet. We usually take around 600 shots on a week's vacation. She holds it in one hand and just points and shoots. It is compact enough that it fits in my jacket pocket when we are off of the bike.
When I was shopping for a camera, I wanted one that uses AA batteries. We used to have a camera that we had to plug in to recharge the battery, and there were many times we forgot, or the camera battery quit at the wrong time.
I've had this camera for about 3 years with no problems. I would buy it again.

+1 This is what we use also. Works well if you remember to use the correct setting. We also use a 4gig card and it takes a LOT of pictures. Examples are here....

Some aren't so great, but that's because of the operator, not the camera.

I looked at a lot of different cameras (Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc.) and quite honestly there's not a huge difference in the quality of pictures for most of the cameras in the same price range. However, there were a few features that I personally wanted that sold me on the HX9V.
First, it had a larger viewing screen than most other cameras in the same price range. Second, it has a 16x zoom (more than most in its price range) which I felt would come in handy for shots out west where sometimes objects or wildlife are pretty far away. Turns out it came in very handy for pictures of Mount Rushmore and the Buffalo herds in Custer State Park. Third, the HX9V allows you to take panorama photos which the Canon and Nikon in the same price range did not have. I ended up taking a LOT of panorama shots on the Beartooth Highway, Chief Joseph's Highway, and in the Badlands.
The HX9V also has full 1080P HD video and allows you to take 3D stills. I can't really comment on those features as I haven't used them yet. I really regret not taking some HD videos during some of the concerts at the Buffalo Chip.
Hope this helps.

I'm looking at picking up a Nikon Coolpix AW100 for bike trips. It's waterproof, shockproof, and has a built-in GPS. Only 5x zoom, but would suit my purposes. Runs about $300.
