Hatch is 39 miles north of Las Cruces so if you are headed west from here it may be out of your way. Let me know which way, north to Albuquerque, west to Tucson or the specific location and I'll try to help. If you are going to dine in Las Cruces, try the High Desert Brewery they make a great green chilie cheeseburger.

Enjoy your trip and the time in New Mexico!

well, almost 2 weeks until we head out on our trip. Getting excited. In the last couple of months, we have decided to reverse the route. Gonna go thru OK to KS, then CO, UT, AZ, NM, TX, LA. The main reason is that I want to see the Rockies coming at me on the horizon. The original route would have had us going "down and around". Therefore, missing the "awe" of seeing them in the distance, in my opinion. I still have notes from those who have given ideas and will try to incorporate them. Can't believe I am about to do this. Been planning for 5 years.

Sounds like an AWESOME trip! Are you going to hit Ranch Roads 335, 336 and 337 in Leakey, Texas? Those are the three sisters.

How long to you expect it to take?

If you're going through Gunnison, to the East take SR 137 over Cochetopa pass to Saguache the east to the Great Sand Dunes, Ft Garland. Monarch pass east of Gunnison in the summer is too crowded and less interesting than 137. Have fun!
