13 States in 14 Days.......Leaving Ga, headed to Texas Hill Country. Then to Big Bend, up thru NM and AZ, to the Grand Canyon. After that, to Monument Valley(Utah), Colorado Rocky Mtns, and on to Kansas and down to Route 66 in Oklahoma. Then bust *** back to Ga. Can't freaking wait, but was looking for any input as to where to stay, what to see, and what to avoid.
If you're camping most small towns have parks with camping available, ( real reasonable). Otherwise there are KOA's everywhere, which again are a pretty good deal with laundry, small stores etc. You'll just have to figure out somewhat where you'll be at the end of the day, and go from there. Sounds like a great trip!!! Good luck.

I am riding from El Paso to Vegas and back in mid-March. I've looked at a lot of different routes and it seems that camping isn't an issue regardless of which way you go. When you come up from Big Bend through Las Cruces make sure you hit up Hatch, NM., and eat at Sparky's.
Also check out this website for when you go through Hill Country. I recommend going to New Braunfels and camping along the Guadalupe River, still too early for tubing but lot sof campsites and bars. Luchenback is worth hitting as well, it is just west of Fredericksburg and on the way west if you are heading to Big Bend.
You don't mention how much time you will have for Colorado, for one can ride the Rockies here for ten days and still not see everything, but for a nice 2-3 days of famed highlights (Million Dollar, Independence Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park)... http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Co...6,7,11&t=m&z=8
The launch is from Cortez in SW Colorado, a place of entry most coming up from Monument Valley end up going through if Colorado is the destination.
thanks for the replies. Will be going thru Las Cruces, around dinner time, so will check out Sparky's. We have been taking about camping, certainly much cheaper and the weather should allow for it. We are spending 2 days in Hill Country. All the places you mentioned are included. I listen to streaming audio of a radio station there, KNBT, and already know quite a bit about the area. As for Colorado, we will go thru Cortez and Durango. Not sure if we will have time to get up to Gunnision and that area. But, would like to.
To me that is a very aggressive schedule for 14 days. Depending on when in the spring, I would stay south early or hit Colorado if late. Camping at the Indian campground right on the edge of Monument Valley is fantastic. Otherwise Goulding Lodge. Staying in Moab lets you see Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point SP.
I could spend a week or more just in Colorado. In fact, I have. I've also spent more than a week just in Utah. If you want to hit more than one state spend a week just in the four corners area. Well you get the idea. When you try to do it all in one trip you only see stuff at 65. Your a ride by biker. You can't get the feel for countryside.
Did that trip over a year ago! It was awesome! I went to Jackson Mississippi and hit the Natchez Trace going south. Went the back roads through Louisiana and Texas. Headed toward Judge Roy Bean territory and that was a great stop. Then stayed on the border going toward Tombstone! After Tombstone went up through Phoenix and took HWY 89 to Prescott. Take 89A out of Prescott and go to Jerome toward Sedona then to Flagstaff. Galaxy Diner is an old Route 66 stop in Flagstaff and it is a good stop. Take 180 out of Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon. When you leave the Grand Canyon take Hwy 64 out.
I really love Georgia and my area of riding but I love the rides out west!

If you don't have the time for 2-3 days in CO, just continue west on U.S. 160 from Cortez, through Durango, through Pagosa Springs, over Wolf Creek Pass to South Fork and then on east back towards home. U.S. 160 is one of the finer two laned roads to cross Kansas on.
You didn't say when you were going, other than "spring". Keep an eye on the weather, in the Rockies many passes don't open until summer and snow is a real possibility even in late spring.
